The rise of climate change has shown a direct effect on the life of destinations in the Himalayas. Tsho Rolpa lake is one of the most dangerous glacier lakes in Nepal. It lies at an altitude of 4,580 meters in the Rolwaling Valley of Dolakha district. Similarly, this lake is also known as a dark tourism destination because the rapid expansion in its area caused by the melting of the Himalayan glacier leads it to high chances of outburst. By 2000, mitigation activities had successfully reduced the lake’s level by 3 meters, but the threat of an outburst still looms. The lake has been consistently expanding over the last 60 years, while measured in 1958 AD area of the lake was 0.23 sq km which is 1.6 sq km at present.

Suklaphanta is derived from two words, 'Sukla' means grass and 'Phanta’ means flat land. This was initially a wildlife reserve but later got converted into the National Park in 2017 A.D.

It is by far the largest grassland in the lower land (Terai) of Nepal that aimed to protect the Swamp Deer. Initially, 500 swamp deers were recorded here but now this number has increased by four times which is more than 2,000 at a present.

The region falls under the sub-tropical monsoonal climatic zone. Dramatic grassland and wetland around the lakes of the park are also the habitats for numerous species of birds and animals. Some 700 species of flora are estimated in the park.

The main grass species are Imperata Cylindrica and Heteropogon contortus. A total of 423 species of birds, 46 mammals, 28 fish, and 12 reptiles & amphibian species are recorded here.

The park supports the highest number of Bengal Floricans in Nepal and many other species like Bengal Tiger, One-Horned Rhinos, Indian Leopard, Monitor Lizard, and Mughal Crocodile can also be spotted.

Travellers can experience wildlife safaris, jungle walks, canoeing, bird watching and enjoy beautiful noon at a marine lake called 'Ranital' inside the park.
