One of the most iconic places on Earth, yet old tents and expedition waste can still be seen here. As climbers, we should not only chase summits but also help protect the mountains we love.

During our summit push on Mount Everest, we spent a night at Camp 4 (South Col). With some time before our next move, we walked around the camp to better understand the reality of life above 8,000 meters.

What stayed with me most was not the cold, the wind, or the altitude.

It was the body of an eagle lying some distance away from the old tents and discarded equipment. What caught my attention was that there appeared to be a piece of tent rope around its neck. While it is impossible to know exactly what happened, it seemed possible that the bird may have become entangled near Camp 4 and managed to move only a short distance before it died. Seeing such a powerful bird end its life in a place affected by human activity was difficult to witness.

The South Col is where hundreds of climbers establish Camp 4 each season, making it one of the areas most impacted by accumulated expedition debris. While progress has been made over the years, this experience was a reminder that there is still more work to do.

The mountains give us unforgettable experiences, opportunities and dreams. We also have a responsibility to protect them.

This Spring 2026 season on Everest was one of the most uncertain seasons in recent years because of the dangerous Khumbu Icefall situation.

After Annapurna I, I arrived at Everest Base Camp while many teams believed the season might be cancelled or heavily delayed. Each expedition company decided to send one Sherpa to assess the route and from , I decided to personally go into the Icefall because I wanted to know myself and my clients.

Meanwhile, the team sent by .g sir and Imagine Nepal arrived there. Together with Dipan Gurung sir, Bartek Ziemski sir, Phuri Achhu, Dawa Tenjin Achhu, and Sensai Pema Waiba Dai, we carefully checked possible options.

The regular route looked extremely dangerous, and we were already thinking about returning. But after encouragement from Mingma G sir to check one more possibility, we moved higher and explored another section.

Step by step, we finally found a possible line & we fixed 5 ladders together across the crevasse and that became the route that allowed the season to continue.

I’m sharing this not to take credit from anyone, but because I was personally there and experienced it with everyone involved. Respect to all the teams who worked together during that critical time on Everest.

Congratulations to all climbers and Sherpa teams who successfully summited Everest, Lhotse & Nuptse this season. 🙏

This is the reality of Camp 4 on Mount Everest | 7,900 M

Behind every summit photo, there is another side that people rarely see old tents, abandoned things and garbage left behind in the highest camps of the mountain.

As mountaineers, all we expedition agencies and authorities, we all share responsibility to protect the mountains for future generations. Everest is not only a dream destination, it is a place that deserves respect and better management.

I captured this video during our first AltiPro expedition on Mt Everest and I will continue sharing more real footage from Camp 4 to raise awareness about the conditions above 8,000m.

The mountains give us everything. It is time for us to give something back.

Extreme wind. Freezing temperatures. Dangerous exposure.
No comfort. No easy climbing. No easy way down.

This is the real side of Mount Everest, where every step demands strength, focus, experience and respect for the mountain.

At this altitude, nature decides everything.
The wind never stops. The oxygen is low. One small mistake can change everything.

People see the summit photos.
But this is what climbers truly face on the journey to the top.

A huge congratulations to the entire team for the successful summit of Kangchenjunga 🏔️

I am truly happy and proud of everyone. The original plan was to climb together but due to continuous bad weather and no helicopter flights, I got stuck at Cheram and could not reach Base Camp in time. 😔

Even from here, it is an incredible feeling to see the team standing on the summit of the world’s third highest mountain.
