Kathmandu isn't a stop before the mountains — it's a destination on its own. 🏯

Nepal is famous for its mountains. Less known is the ancient kingdom hidden beyond them.

Lo Manthang, the walled capital of the former Kingdom of Lo, was founded in the 14th century by King Ame Pal. At 3,840 metres, its ancient monasteries, royal palace, narrow lanes and enduring Loba traditions reflect centuries of Tibetan cultural heritage.

Beyond the walls, mysterious cliff caves—some thousands of years old—rise above a dramatic landscape of wind-carved badlands.

Upper Mustang lies in the Himalayan rain shadow, but travel during Nepal’s monsoon still requires careful planning due to difficult road conditions and possible disruptions. Spring and autumn generally offer the most reliable conditions for exploring the region.

What’s the best time to trek in Nepal? 🇳🇵🥾

🌸 Spring | March–May
Warm weather, blooming rhododendrons and excellent trekking conditions. One of Nepal’s most popular trekking seasons.

🌧️ Monsoon | Mid-June–Mid-September
Generally not recommended for trekking and overland travel because of heavy rain, cloud, landslides and difficult road conditions. However, Nepal also has spectacular rain-shadow regions such as Manang and Mustang, which receive much less rainfall.

🏔️ Autumn | October–November
The best time of the year. Stable weather, clear Himalayan views and excellent conditions for trekking, wildlife watching and photography. October is especially popular, so early booking is recommended.

❄️ Winter | December–February
Cold, dry, clear—and highly underrated. If you are comfortable with cold nights, winter can offer some of the best Himalayan views throughout the day, with fewer visitors and beautifully clear skies.

In places such as Manang, sunny daytime conditions can feel surprisingly pleasant. At night, good lodges provide warm blankets, and we also offer electric bed sheets and heated dining areas.

Our recommendation:
👉 October–November: best overall
👉 December–February: highly recommended for clear views and quieter travel if you don't mind the cold
👉 March–May: excellent for warmer weather and spring flowers
👉 Mid-June–Mid-September: Avoid trekking and overland travel unless necessary.
