Day 9 Gokyo Lakes (4th & 5th Lakes Exploration)- Khumbu Valley via Gokyo Lakes

Today we hike up to Tonak Tsho, the 4th lake, and Ngozumpa Tsho, the 5th lake located just a front of mount Cho Oyu Base Camp at 5357 m, 3 hours from Gokyo Village.

Local Sherpa communities consider these waters sacred. In Tibetan traditions sacred lakes are viewed as harboring, holy sites where one can observe mind's reflections. Ancient chortens and prayer flags dot the landscape and tell stories of spiritual practice.

The turquoise jewel of Thonak Tsho (4th lake) is the the deepest water body in the region.

The Ngozumpa lake or 5th lake, situated at 4950 m, is the smallest of the 6 mayor lakes of Gokyo. From here you get incredible 360 degrees views on South West face Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, Gychung Khang and other Himalayan giants.

The landscapes are amazing and todays hike feels like an ultimate serene off-beaten Himalayan odyssey. Join us. Contact us: [email protected] -

Day 7th & Day 8th - Dole - Machhermo-Gokyo Lake - Khumbu Valley via Gokyo Lakes

Leaving Dole and Machhermo village the landscapes are quickly changing. We enter open glacier terrains and enjoy stunning views on the small lakes and Ngozumpa Glacier.

We wander along the stony glaciers, icy rivers and snow capped mountains.

Coming closer to Macchermo sunshine illuminates 6 of the talles mountains on earth Everest (8848 m). Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8485 m), Cho Oyu (8201 m), Gyachung Kang (7592 m) and Nuptse (7861 m). At Gokyo (4700 to 5000 m) six lakes are filled with deep turquoise blue water. The views on the pristine Gokyo valley and the freshwater lakes are jaw dropping, out of this world. Join us. Day 6 Phortse to Dole - Khumbu Valley via Gokyo Lakes.

Today we enter a quiter wider side of Sagarmatha National Park. The crowds thin out and great beauty beyond measure cascades in. Our trail crosses a waterfall, climbs fir up to a resting point with great views on the wild peaks of Kangtega and Cho Oyu mountains. In the forests we may spot musk deers and colorful pheasants. We stay in Dole (a little above 4000 m) near Ngozumpa, Nepal's largest glacier. It drains from Cho Oyu, 6 th highest peak of the world (8 188 m). Due to the shrinking of the glacier, morain lakes are formed. Join us this Autumn 2026: [email protected] for price details.

The descent from the riverside camp to the northwestern edge of Phoksumdo Lake bears of the steepness of the previous day. Lunch is likely to be in a small birch grove where the trail meets the lake for the first time. It is here that Matthiessen and Schaller camped after negotiating the formerly treacherous trail around the western side of the lake height above the lake change, the intense, remarkable blue of the water emerges and shifts in ways that cannot be appreciated from the lake’s edge. It is blue like no other, the lake’s edge and follows a reasonably level course into the town of Ringmo. This trail has only recently been upgraded from the precarious route Matthiessen and Snellgrovp describe in their writings. This is where the Yak fell off the trail in the 1999 movie Himalaya.

Home to snow leopard, blue sheep, lammergeier, and one of the few enclaves of unoppressed traditional Tibetan culture, this is authentic, rugged, unspoiled, and unforgettable arguably the best trek in all of Nepal. Congratulations 🎊 RD Tamang and Sok Leng Chan from Cambodia 🇰🇭 for successfully Done!
