Today, May 29, 2026, marks the 73rd anniversary of the historic day Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa first stood atop the world.
This year’s Everest season marked the most successful and busiest climbing season in Everest’s history. Defying early-season fears of severe icefall delays, the Spring 2026 season completely rewrote the mountaineering record books. For the first time in history, the season closed with over 1,000 successful summits by climbers and high-altitude guides.
On May 20, 2026, a record-breaking 274 climbers summited from the Nepal side alone in a single day, managed safely without the chaotic bottlenecks seen in previous years.
On May 17, 2026, the mountaineering world witnessed arguably its most historic day ever when two ultimate icons broke their own respective world records within hours of each other. Kami Rita Sherpa, the veteran guide, widely known as the “Everest Man,” extended his unmatched legacy by successfully standing on the 8,848.86-meter peak for the 32nd time. On that very same day, the legendary “Mountain Queen”, Lhakpa Sherpa scaled the peak to claim her 11th successful summit. She successfully broke her own record for the most Everest ascents by a woman.
Just as the season was winding down, American endurance athlete and mountain runner Tyler Andrews stunned the climbing community. He scripted history by blazing from Everest Base Camp all the way to the summit in just 9 hours and 55 minutes. This established a staggering new Fastest Known Time (FKT) for an oxygen-assisted ascent, a journey that typically takes commercial climbers several grueling days.
Thank you Mother Chomolungma for the blessings 🙏
