Royal Bhutan Army Lieutenant Jigme Pelden Dorje has become the first Bhutanese to summit the world's highest mountain, Mt. Everest.

He reached the summit at 9:30 am today, accompanied by his guide Chakra Rai and the support team, according to the Pioneer Adventure Pvt Ltd who managed the expedition.

Jigme and his team had left Everest Base Camp for the higher elevations on May 16.

"Standing on the top of Everest fills me with immense pride as a Bhutanese. This climb is a tribute to my country, our monarch, and our enduring spirit of exploration," Jigme shared after his successfull summit.

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman of Pioneer Adventure Pvt Ltd, expressed his pride, saying, "We are delighted to have been part of Jigme's historic climb. Our guides are committed to ensuring the success and safety of every climber. Congratulations to Jigme for this extraordinary achievement."

Did you know that Swiss footwear contributed to the first ascent of Mount Everest? 🇨🇭

On May 29, 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first men to set foot on the summit of Mount Everest. An important contribution to their success was their good preparation and equipment. Particular attention was paid to the mountaineers’ footwear. And guess what? Tenzing was wearing a pair of reindeer fur boots, handmade by the Swiss company Bally. 🏔️
