Most of Nepal’s major trekking destinations, including Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Kanchenjunga, Mustang, Dolpo, Makalu, Mardi Himal, Nar Phu Valley, Tsum Valley etc, remain outside the affected area. If you’re planning a trek this autumn, please check the latest conditions with us before travelling.

However, some highways and access roads from Kathmandu towards trekking trailheads have been affected. This may mean using alternative routes or different modes of transport to reach certain destinations while infrastructure is being restored.

Some major routes in and around Rasuwa, including the Tamang Heritage Trail, Langtang, Gosaikunda and Ruby Valley, have been more directly affected by damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure and should be avoided for now as recovery continues.

G*i Jatra is a festival of remembrance, a day when grief is brought into the open, families honour those they have lost and communities come together through processions, music, colour and even laughter.

This year, however, the festive season feels different. Recent floods have brought loss, displacement and hardship to many communities of Nepal, and many families are facing a difficult time.

According to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and the Nepal Police Headquarters, as of today, Saturday, August 29, 2026:

626 people are confirmed dead, approximately 4,000 people have been rescued and 2,426 people are still missing.

This year, as we share these photographs from the trek to Gosaikunda, our thoughts are also with the people and communities of Rasuwa who have been affected by the recent devastating flash floods.

The route through Dhunche and Syabrubesi (entry points of Gosainkunda) has also suffered significant damage, at a time when many pilgrims and travellers were making their way towards Gosaikunda for Janai Purnima and also Kailash journey. We are also thinking of those who are still waiting for news of their loved ones.

May this Janai Purnima bring strength, protection and hope to everyone affected. 🙏

As many around the world will now have heard, Rasuwa District on the Tibet border in northern Nepal was hit by a huge flash flood yesterday morning, causing catastrophic destruction and loss of life throughout the river corridor. Houses, roads, bridges, hydropower sites and border crossings were washed away.

The exact cause is still under investigation, but the National Authority for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management’s preliminary analysis of satellite imagery indicates that the flood originated from an ice and rockfall in Tibet, just north of the Rasuwa–Rasuwagadhi border crossing. This blocked the Lhende River, a tributary of the Bhotekoshi, resulting in a subsequent outburst flood that impacted everything downstream.
The government is working around the clock with the army, police and disaster management agencies prioritising search, rescue and relief for those affected, and once again Nepal’s international friends and partners are supporting these efforts with funds and relief supplies.

It is with grateful but heavy hearts that we can report that our family and HQ team members are all OK, as many are not so lucky.
