"Even the woodpecker owes his success to the fact that he uses his head and keeps pecking away until he finishes the job he started."

Meet the stunning Red-headed Trogon (Harpactes erythrocephalus) – one of the most beautiful birds found in Nepal's dense evergreen and broadleaved forests.
The male is unmistakable with its bright crimson-red head, neck, and upper breast, a contrasting white band, and that striking black-and-white barred tail. It sits quietly on mid-story branches, often overlooked until you spot that vivid red! Females are a bit duller with brownish tones but equally elegant.
This species ranges from central Nepal through the Himalayas and Southeast Asia. In Nepal, it's uncommon to scarce, mainly in the Himalayan foothills and protected areas like Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park or further east. It prefers elevations between 300–2,600 meters.

With its bold, bare crimson head, powerful hooked beak, and intense gaze, this bird is a true master of the skies. Nature's ultimate cleanup crew, these vultures play a vital role in our ecosystem by scavenging carcasses and preventing the spread of disease. But here's the sobering truth: this magnificent species

is Critically Endangered. Populations across South Asia have plummeted due to veterinary drugs like diclofenac in livestock carcasses. Every sighting matters, and every voice for conservation counts.
