เป็นเทศเฉลิมฉลองการสิ้นสุดของปีเก่า ของชาวฮินดู จะจัดช่วงปลายหน้าหนาว
โฮลีจัดขึ้น 2 วันในช่วงเดือนมีนาคม (แรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 4) เทศกาลนี้เรียกอีกอย่างว่า "เทศกาลแห่งสีสัน" เนื่องจากผู้คนจะออกมาเฉลิมฉลองด้วยการสาดสีหรือป้ายสี ซึ่งเป็นฝุ่นผงใส่กัน ด้วยสีสันต่าง ๆ อย่างสนุกสนาน ซึ่งการสาดสีใส่กันนี้สันนิษฐานว่า เป็นพื้นเพที่ประเทศต่าง ๆ ในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้รับมา และปรับเปลี่ยนเป็นการสาดน้ำใส่กันแทน คือ สงกรานต์

ฝุ่นผงสีที่ใช้สาดกันนั้นจะทำมาจากธรรมชาติ เช่น ดอกทองกวาว, บีทรูท, ขมิ้น อันเป็นนัยที่บ่งบอกถึงการสิ้นสุดของฤดูหนาวและเข้าสู่ฤดูใบไม้ผลิ มีขนมที่ทำเพื่อรับประทานโดยเฉพาะในเทศกาลนี้ ที่ทำมาจากนมและนมเปรี้ยวเป็นหลัก เชื่อกันว่าหากได้รับประทานขนมด้วยจิตใจเบิกบานจะเป็นนิมิตรหมายที่ดีของการเริ่มต้นปีใหม่

การสาดสีใส่กันนั้น เชื่อว่า เป็นการปัดเป่าสิ่งชั่วร้าย มีปกรณัมมากมายเกี่ยวกับที่มาของเทศกาลนี้ แต่ที่เชื่อกันมากที่สุด คือ การเฉลิมฉลองที่พระวิษณุ หนึ่งในตรีมูรติ เอาชนะนางมารโฮลิกะ ซึ่งเป็นน้องสาวของหิรัณยกศิปุ ที่ดูหมิ่นผู้ที่นับถือพระองค์ ทำให้นางมารถูกไฟแผดเผาจนมอดไหม้ วันก่อนการสาดสีจะมีการก่อกองไฟเพื่อชำระล้างสิ่งไม่ดีไปจากจิตใจ

วิวสวยๆจากเมืองภักตปูร์ ที่เนปาลเป็นหุบเขาที่ล้อมไปด้วยเทือกเขาหิมาลัย เราสามารถมองเห็นหิมาลัยง่ายมาก ยิ่งถ้าท้องฟ้าเป็นใจยิ่งเห็นชัดเลยค่ะ
