Being a restricted area for many years, this traditionally sacred valley was shielded from the outside world until it was opened for foreign travellers in 2008. Therefore, the local population has preserved its authentic Buddhist culture, religion and architecture. Tsum valley offers pristine nature with abundant wild life, surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, like Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal a
nd Tabsar Himal. Tsum can be explored in trips as short as 4 days (when travelling in and out by helicopter) or as extensive as 4 weeks for a full-submerge experience. You can opt to stay in teahouses, to camp or spend the night with local families in 'homestays'. One of the unique features of Tsum is that the habitants strictly follow a century-old non-violence tradition. This means that all sentient beings are considered equal and that humans are not allowed to poach, hunt or kill any animal, either wild or domestic. From the monastery Mu Gompa you can reach a 5000m pass at the Tibetan border. Another worthwhile side trip includes Milarepa Cave, where the highly respected Buddhist yogi meditated in the 11th century. In the incredibly isolated Lungdang Gompa you will enjoy the hospitality of nuns who perform their daily chantings while gazing at the 7000m Ganesh Himal range. Attending one of the many local festivals is another highlight of your Tsum trekking. Think of Ngyingma traditional lama dancing, horse racing or Tibetan New Year (Losar). We want to invite you to visit our natal valley to learn about our culture and religious tradition, and take away something special into your heart, of our simple but nature-loving life. Our name Khamsang is a Tibetan word with many meanings. One of them is the overwhelming feeling of happiness and freshness, for example when a new panorama opens up after a long climb or after making new friends. Visiting or volunteering at this special place can transform your life. Let us be your experienced local guides. Operating since 2008 we can also support expeditions, organise scenic helicopter flights, provide interesting city tours or take you to any other trekking area of Nepal. possible Trekking itinerary for Tsum valley
