Tragedy and Tribute: Fallen Sherpa Climbers Returned Home from Broad Peak!

The bodies of three prominent Nepali mountaineers—Gyaljen Sherpa, Kili Pemba Sherpa, and Nima Sherpa—who tragically lost their lives in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, have been successfully repatriated to Kathmandu. Their remains arrived Tuesday afternoon on a Qatar Airways flight via Doha. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, their solemn processions were escorted directly to the office of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) to honor their immense contributions to high-altitude climbing.

The remains of Pur Bahadur Gurung "Yukta," another victim of the same devastating accident, had previously been brought back to Nepal on July 21. Search and recovery efforts remain ongoing to repatriate the remaining climbers from the accident site, which includes one Nepali, one Pakistani, and one American national.

Honoring the Fallen Legends
"Only a select few in this world have the courage to fully live out their dreams. These remarkable Sherpa brothers achieved extraordinary milestones in such a tragically brief time before leaving us too soon. May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may their grieving families and loved ones find the strength to turn this profound sorrow into lasting resilience."

Lower Dolpa Clockwise Trek — Nepal’s Wild Side
If you are looking for a trek that feels truly remote, Lower Dolpa is one of the places I would recommend.

This is not the kind of trek where you meet large numbers of tourists every day. The landscape changes constantly—from dry, red and ochre cliffs and deep river valleys to high mountain passes, quiet villages and the incredible blue-green waters of Phoksundo Lake.

The clockwise route takes you through some of the most remote parts of Lower Dolpa, including the beautiful village of Ringmo and Shey Phoksundo Lake. Along the way, you get to see a way of life that has remained closely connected to Tibetan culture, Buddhism and the ancient Bon tradition.

What makes this trek special is not only the scenery. It is the feeling of being far away from the busy trekking routes of Nepal.

At Virgin Nepal Treks & Expeditions, we take care of the restricted-area permits, local arrangements, accommodation, camping logistics, transportation and experienced trekking staff. Remote trekking requires good planning, especially when crossing the high passes and travelling through areas with limited facilities.

When is the best time?
March–May offers warmer days and beautiful spring landscapes.

September–November generally brings clearer skies, stable weather and excellent mountain views.

Lower Dolpa is not an easy trek, and that is part of what makes it special. If you are prepared for long days, remote trails and basic mountain conditions, it can become one of the most memorable journeys you make in Nepal.

If you are interested in exploring Lower Dolpa by the clockwise route, feel free to contact us. We would be happy to discuss the itinerary, permits, dates and logistics with you.

Today, our hearts are heavy.

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the tragic loss of Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja following an avalanche on Broad Peak. We have also learned that his trusted climbing partners and guides, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta) and Nima Sherpa, tragically lost their lives in the same incident.
Today, we honor not only Nimsdai but every life lost in this heartbreaking tragedy.
Our deepest condolences and prayers are with their families, friends, teammates, and everyone whose lives they touched. We cannot begin to imagine the pain they are enduring, and we respectfully ask that their privacy be honored during this difficult time.
Nimsdai was more than a world-class mountaineer—he was a visionary who changed the way people viewed human potential. His courage, determination, humility, and relentless pursuit of the impossible inspired millions around the world. Through his achievements, he reminded us that the greatest limits we face are often the ones we place on ourselves.
His legacy reaches far beyond the mountains. Through Elite Exped, the Nimsdai Foundation, Skydive Nimsdai, and the Nimsdai Store, he built a lasting impact that will continue to inspire future generations of climbers, adventurers, and dreamers.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to the search and rescue teams, local authorities, and everyone involved in the response under extraordinarily difficult conditions. Your dedication and courage are deeply appreciated.
Out of respect for the families and in accordance with information released by the appropriate authorities, we will not be making any further public comments at this time.
To Nimsdai, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), Nima Sherpa, and everyone who lost their lives on Broad Peak:
Your journey may have ended, but your legacy never will. Your courage will echo through the Himalayas and continue to inspire generations around the world.
Rest in peace.

Nepal Plans New Everest Climbing Rules: 7,000m Summit Experience May Become Mandatory
The Government of Nepal is preparing to introduce new regulations that could significantly change the requirements for climbing Mount Everest. Under the proposed policy, climbers would need to successfully summit a 7,000-meter peak before becoming eligible to apply for an Everest climbing permit.
According to Nepal's Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the move is intended to reduce overcrowding on Everest, improve climber safety, and protect the fragile Himalayan environment. The new requirement is expected to be included in Nepal's updated tourism legislation and mountaineering regulations.
The government is also considering additional measures, including possible adjustments to Everest permit fees, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance. These initiatives aim to promote responsible mountaineering while ensuring the long-term sustainability of expeditions on the world's highest mountain.
For climbers planning an Everest Expedition, this proposal highlights the importance of gaining high-altitude experience before attempting an 8,848.86-meter summit.
At Virgin Nepal Trek & Expedition, we closely follow the latest mountaineering regulations and provide professionally organized Everest expeditions, peak climbing adventures, and high-altitude training programs led by experienced local Sherpa guides. Whether you are preparing for your first 7,000-meter peak or your ultimate Everest summit, our team is committed to helping you climb safely, responsibly, and successfully.

RE-DEFINING THE VIRGIN HIMALAYAS: HOW WE TREK SUSTAINABLY

What does a "Virgin" landscape mean to you? To us at Virgin Nepal Trek and Expedition, it represents the ultimate promise: keeping the majestic Himalayas untouched, pure, and thriving for generations to come.

True adventure tourism shouldn't cost the Earth. That’s why we operate under a strict Leave No Trace (LNT) policy on every single peak, valley, and trail we explore. Whether we are trekking to Everest Base Camp or scaling high Himalayan peaks, our footprints are temporary, but our commitment to the ecosystem is permanent!

Our "Leave No Trace" Promise in Action:
Pack It In, Pack It Out: We ensure absolutely zero waste or plastic is left behind on the trails. What goes up the mountain with us always comes back down.

Respecting Local Wildlife & Habitats: We travel along designated trails to prevent soil erosion and protect vulnerable high-altitude ecosystems.

Supporting Local Mountain Communities: Sustainable tourism means protecting the culture, economy, and livelihoods of our incredible local guides and porters.

For us, eco-friendly travel isn't just a trend—it’s our responsibility as protectors of these sacred mountains. When you trek with Virgin Nepal, you aren’t just a tourist; you become a guardian of the wild.

Ready to experience a profoundly meaningful journey through the pristine Himalayas? Let’s explore responsibly.
