🎥 Scientist Nepal – Episode 165

In the wake of the devastating August 26, 2026 glacier collapse and flood along the Nepal–China border, which claimed more than 360 lives and left nearly 1,000 people missing, understanding Himalayan geohazards has never been more urgent.

In this timely episode of Scientist Nepal, we are honored to host Prof. Ranjan Kumar Dahal, a distinguished Engineering Geologist and Geohazard Specialist with over 28 years of experience.

Our hearts are heavy with grief as we reflect on the devastating glacier collapse and subsequent flood that struck the Nepal-China border region just days ago. The loss of hundreds of precious lives, the pain of the families who lost their loved ones, and the suffering of the displaced communities weigh deeply on all of us.

We extend our deepest condolences, heartfelt solidarity, and prayers to all the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this immense tragedy. May the departed souls find eternal peace, and may the injured and displaced find strength and swift support in these difficult hours.

𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐩: 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬✨

This past weekend (July 18–19), we came together as a community for our "𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽", and we are still riding that energy!

𝘿𝙖𝙮 1 (𝙎𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙮) was all about grounding. We shared what we love about this place, named what feels urgent and fragile, and uncovered the hidden wisdom that only we-as people who live here, truly understand.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 2 (𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮) took us deeper. We mapped the forces shaping our community, imagined bold new futures rooted in care and dignity, and turned our visions into concrete action steps. We asked ourselves the hard questions: Who benefits? Who's missing? What must we protect?

We closed with the Ubuntu spirit "𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚", and committed to showing up for each other and for the generations to come.

Huge gratitude to every single person who showed up, shared, listened, and imagined with us. This is just the beginning. The future we want is possible, and we're building it together.
