The Khumbu is alive.
Spring 2026 on Everest is officially in full motion. Teahouses from Lukla to Base Camp are at peak occupancy, yak trains are loaded, and the trails are buzzing with climbers, trekkers, and porters heading toward the roof of the world.
Here is what you need to know this morning:
๐๏ธ 400+ climbers are expected on Everest this season, with Nepal's Ministry of Tourism already issuing permits for Everest, Annapurna I, Ama Dablam, and Dhaulagiri.
๐ง Icefall Doctors have completed route-fixing through the Khumbu Icefall after their puja ceremony on 16 March. Ropes, ladders, and ice screws are set from Base Camp to Camp II.
๐ Drones are now operational in the Khumbu Icefall, ferrying ropes and equipment to reduce the dangerous load-carrying risk Sherpas have faced for decades. A quiet revolution on the world's most famous mountain.
๐จ๐ณ Tibet side closed. With the North side off-limits this year, the entire global expedition community has shifted to Nepal's South Col route. Nepal is, once again, the only door to the summit.
Why it matters for Nepal: The climbing royalty economy crossed Rs 918 million last fiscal year, up 19%. Spring 2026 is on pace to exceed every year since 2019. While Western arrivals dipped due to Middle East flight disruptions, Asian markets are surging, and Nepal's trekking trails are fuller than ever.
The mountains are open. The season is on. Nepal is ready.
