Holidays in Grate Himalaya Region

Holidays in Grate Himalaya Region Grate Himalaya Region (Trails in Eastern to westen 1700km section) The Nepal section ends in Humla on the Tibetan border. That is more than possible in Nepal.

The 1,700 km Nepal section of the trail begins near Kanchenjunga on the eastern border and heads west navigating the domains of eight of the world’s 8000m peaks, from the beautiful but lesser-known Makalu to the famous Everest. It is not the easiest nor most direct route across Nepal, rather a route through the Greater Himalaya. The route offers an incredible diversity in terms of landscapes, flor

a & fauna, people and culture: from snow leopards to red pandas; from sub-tropical jungle to fragile high-altitude eco-systems; from the famous Sherpas, to Shamanism, to the ancient Bön Buddhist culture found still in Dolpa. National Geographic Adventure Magazine‘s Jame’s Vlahos observes, “Nepal’s mountains are minimally developed, but they offer a wealth of trade and pilgrimage routes. The GHT elegantly connects these existing paths without blazing a single new trail.”

The Nepal section is part of a longer alpine adventure traversing the spine of the Himalaya from Bhutan to Pakistan. These sections are currently being researched, trekked and documented. There still is a a lot of Great Himalaya Trail exploring yet to be done! Making a difference

Nepal is a poor country and tourism contributes an important 4% of GDP. However this is concentrated, as far as trekking is concerned, in the 3 most popular areas of Solo Khumbu (Everest) region, Annapurna region and Langtang. By trekking off the the beaten track, you will making a direct difference to communities in these areas by spending money on food, accommodation or services such as guides, porters and cooks. And you’ll be getting to some incredible places, meeting people following ancient cultures and having unique experiences. Many people come to Nepal to get away from the crowds and to seek challenge and adventure, and equally vibrant nature or solitude. Few will have the time to attempt the whole route, so it is broken up into sections and short treks along the trail. There are many more places to visit in Nepal than just Annapurna, Everest or Langtang, beautiful as they are! Take with Dolpa for instance…

Mt. Kailash (6714 m) - also known as Tise, Kailash or Kang Rinpoche (Jewel of the Snows) has since time immemorial been celebrated in many eastern cosmologies as Mt. Meru, the axis-mundi. As the center of the physical & metaphysical universe, Mt. Meru (Kailash) is sacred to the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Jains, and the Bonpos. For the Hindus, the mountain represents the seat of Shiva. For the Buddhists, a terrestrial projection of the cosmic mandala of the Dyani Buddhas & Boddhisatvas? The Wheel of Life.

A World First – the first trek of Nepal’s Great Himalaya Trail was completed in July 2011 by Greg Baggage of Australia and Toni Wilson of England! 2012 treks are now available including individual sections of the The Great Himalaya (GHT) and the full traverse.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone along the way who has made this so successful interesting and enjoyable; firstly trek company World Expeditions who have been very helpful and supportive the whole way. I’m not any different to any other man; I just decided to pursue an opportunity and a dream when the possibility arose. For those of you who have been following the blog and perhaps thinking of trekking in Nepal I say; Come…don’t hesitate, just do it, you won’t be disappointed”. - Greg Babbage, first Australian to walk the GHT in a single season.

So much. But especially the people.

A third-world country in the 21st century, much of Nepal still resists the 20th century. A melting pot of more than a dozen ethnic groups speaking fifty languages devote themselves, in harmony, to two of the world's major religions, Buddhism and Hinduism.

Their legacy is an incredible architectural and artistic history displayed with pageantry and colour in year-round festivals.

For the first few days in Nepal you constantly ask yourself the big questions. Then the joy and beauty of the people gets under your skin and you're in love, promising to return.

Sights:

In addition to the five favourites above, here are a few more unmissable sights in the Kathamndu Valley:

1. Kirtipur - a communist outpost stuck in a time warp.
2. Chobar and its nearby gorge - stay a while and chat, you'll feel like and extra from the 18th century.
3. Pashupatinath - Hindu splendour of an unparalleled scale.
4. Nagarkot - pick a clear day, the views and walks in the area are unmissable.
5. Dhulikhel - more historic temples, scenic landscapes, views, and walking opportunities than anywhere else.

Other recommendations:

Here's a couple of useful TIPS for enjoying your time in the valley:

1. Your greatest ally is a reliable contour map - it shows you what you're in for. Here's how we used it to plan our walks:
+ Mark the places to visit, identifying those within walking distance of each other.
+ Link destinations to form walking tours, taking note of the contours. These show the altitude change during the walk and any hills you'll encounter. Plan your walks to minimise the uphill bits - it's much more fun!

2. Base yourself in Bhaktapur - it's Nepal's cultural showcase and you'll have it mostly to yourself before 10am and after 4pm when all the tour groups leave. It's relatively traffic-free, quiet, authentic and the locals are very friendly and justifiably proud of their town. Bhaktapur is also a good transport base for most of the valley as well as a trailhead for a couple of good valley hikes.

SCHOOL TIMES
Trekking is an experience one must have in his/ her life time because once you experience it, you will not forget it.

Rich in its natural beauty, Nepal is one of the best destinations for trekking. I too got an opportunity to experience trekking during my last summer vacation, which was greatly advantageous. We decided to visit different places, the famous region consisting of snow-clad mountains, tranquil lakes, splashing rivers and rivulets.

We formed a group of 35 consisting of school Principal, teachers and students. Then, we went to Nepal Tourism Board to collect information about the places we were going to. We all got a T-Shirt each from Nepal Tourism Board, which was very apt gift as we were on our journey to explore beautiful places of Nepal.

It was a nine-day long tour that started from Kathmandu early in the morning. We reached Pokhara in the evening so that day we just strolled around the famous lakeside. Next day, we visited the most famous places like Mahendra Cave, Chamera Gufa and Devis Fall. We also went boating in the Phewa lake which was very exciting.

Then next morning, we left for Nayapul from where the trekking began. We went to places like Ghandruk, Poonhill, Hilley, Tadapani, et cetera. The trek made us realise that God has given us so many beautiful things like waterfalls, hills, rivers, rivulets

and so on.

Overall, I felt that our trekking to Ghandruk was really fruitful. We got an opportunity to widen our knowledge and experience.

The best place among all was Poonhill which can be described as a ‘piece of heaven’. I request all the Nepali citizens to visit the places in their own country at least once and feel proud.
