Everest in its full glory behind… 3 years since I stood on top of Lhotse at 8,516 meters.

This is the best video I have ever shot in the mountains. I had never seen Everest from this angle before.

We started the Lhotse summit push just a few hours after climbing Everest. My Sherpa dai and I were the only ones on the summit again because we climbed just after the rope fixing team had finished. We had the entire route and summit to ourselves and avoided all the Everest traffic.

This video also answered a lot of people who kept saying I was carried to the top of the mountains by six or seven men. My Sherpa dai, rope fixing team and rest of the staff at base camp made it so much easier though for all of us.

At that point, it became bigger than just reaching the summit. It was about showing that a Pakistani woman can make her own rules, push her own limits, and belong in places people never expected her to reach. We are capable of far more than we are taught to believe.

Summiting in style was just cherry on top 😜

The Khumbu Icefall is the most captivating place on Everest but also one of the most dangerous. In 2014, an avalanche killed 16 people.

Khumbu shines like a large crystal. It’s made of snow, ice, and rock fragments that slid and accumulated from the Southwest face of Everest and the surrounding peaks over millions of years. And these masses keep moving, so there’s always a high probability of a deadly glacier collapse. Moreover, glacial crevasses also pose threats to mountain climbers, who can die if they fall into one and can’t get out.

In 2022, I climbed Khumba pretty quickly. This season is different, though.
A year has passed, and the icefall feels different. Plus, I’m still weak from my illness. So the climb feels even harder.

Climbing the Icefall is like a quest: you crawl ladders wrapped in ropes, navigate crevasses, and enjoy the crystal beauty while your sherpa tells you to speed up through certain areas as quickly as possible...

And Khumbu is melting! No one knows when the glacier will turn into a waterfall. But I am happy that I’ve at least seen this ice giant twice in my lifetime!

Top of the world.

📹:

An immense privilege to have stood alone on the summit of Everest.

For a few minutes, there was nobody higher on Earth.

P.S. People often say Everest is overcrowded.

Sometimes it is. Sometimes it isn’t. It all depends on the day, the conditions, and the choices you make.
