life at Camp 3 on Ama Dablam is truly vertical.

Ama Dablam Camp 3 (≈6,300–6,400 m) sits on a narrow, exposed ledge carved into a steep ice-and-rock face. There’s no flat ground—tents are clipped directly into the mountain, often hanging over thousands of meters of air.

What “vertical ledge” really means there:
• 🏔️ Knife-edge platform: just enough space for a tent, nothing more
• 🧗 Fixed ropes everywhere: moving even a few steps means clipping in
• 💤 Sleeping upright: you rest semi-seated, harness on, boots nearby
• ❄️ Cold, wind, exposure: constant focus, no room for mistakes
• 🎯 Summit push camp: only used briefly before the final climb

Many climbers say Camp 3 on Ama Dablam is one of the most technical and committing high camps in the Himalaya—more intense than many 8,000 m camps because of the exposure.
