Kailash Manasarovar Yatra Permits Temporary Suspension for Indian Pilgrims
[Saga Dawa Festival 2026]

The forthcoming Saga Dawa Festival, one of the most sacred and spiritually significant observances in Tibetan Buddhism, will take place from 17 May to 16 June 2026 in the Mount Kailash region.

During this auspicious period, a substantial number of Tibetan pilgrims and devotees congregate around Mount Kailash to participate in religious ceremonies and undertake the sacred parikrama. In view of the increased pilgrimage activity, the Tibetan authorities have temporarily suspended the issuance of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra permits for Indian pilgrims.

According to the latest information received, all permit applications that have already been submitted are presently under review (Holding) and awaiting approval. The Tibetan authorities are expected to issue further updates following the conclusion of the Saga Dawa Festival.

This development may impact certain Yatra departure schedules planned for May and June.

We respectfully request all yatris to remain patient and refrain from booking flight tickets until official permit confirmation has been received.

We will promptly share further updates as soon as confirmation is received from the China-Tibet Permit Authority.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Om Namah Shivaya!

KAILASH MANASAROVAR YATRA
-----------------------------------------
The Yatra : A Journey of Faith

The sacred **Kailash Manasarovar Yatra** begins from the vibrant capital city of Kathmandu, where devotion meets determination. From here, pilgrims travel northward along a scenic Himalayan highway toward Rasuwagadhi, approximately 170 kilometers away at the Nepal–China border.

As the journey unfolds, travelers pass through Trishuli, accompanied by the holy Trishuli River gracefully flowing alongside the road. The route then ascends to Dhunche—the gateway to the revered Gosainkunda Lake—before continuing onward to Syabrubesi, the final Nepali settlement before the border.

At Rasuwagadhi, immigration and customs formalities are completed on both the Nepalese and Chinese sides. Crossing into Tibet, the journey proceeds to Kerung (Gyirong), a serene Himalayan town located about 26 kilometers beyond the frontier. Here, pilgrims rest and acclimatize to the high altitude, preparing both body and spirit for the sacred path ahead across the vast Tibetan plateau.

According to ancient Hindu cosmology, the divine River Ganga descends from the heavens onto the summit of Mount Meru, encircles it, and then flows outward in four mighty streams toward the four cardinal directions. In sacred geography, the Kailash–Manasarovar region is regarded as the earthly reflection of this cosmic axis. Indeed, this holy land is the source of four of Asia’s great rivers—the Brahmaputra River, Indus River, Sutlej River, and Karnali River—which nourish ancient civilizations across the continent.

At the heart of this spiritual realm stands the majestic Mount Kailash, revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon. Nearby lies the tranquil Lake Manasarovar, whose crystal waters are believed to purify lifetimes of karma.

Pilgrims undertake this profound Yatra seeking inner peace, spiritual purification, and ultimately **Moksha**—liberation from the eternal cycle of birth and rebirth. Tibetan Buddhists deeply believe that performing the sacred **Kora** (circumambulation) around Mount Kailash awakens spiritual consciousness and guides the soul toward ultimate enlightenment.

This is not merely a physical expedition across mountains and borders—it is a timeless pilgrimage of faith, surrender, and awakening.

Kailash Manasarovar 2026

ॐ नमः शिवाय !

Holy Mount Kailash (6,740m), located north of the Nepal Himalayan barrier within Tibet, stands as a mountain of striking beauty, famed for its four magnificent faces. It is revered as the spiritual center of all AUM religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bonpo.

Lake Manasarovar, whose name derives from Sanskrit — ‘Manas’ (mind) and ‘Sarovar’ (lake) — is believed to have been first conceived in the mind of Brahma, the creator. A pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and a sacred bath in Lake Manasarovar are thought to grant moksha (liberation) and cleanse one of sins accumulated over lifetimes. For centuries, countless pilgrims have undertaken arduous journeys across vast landscapes, enduring severe weather and dangers, driven by the hope of attaining enlightenment and purification.
