Tiji Festival 2026 · Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang.
The sacred Tiji Festival 2026 has begun today, 13 May 2026, in the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang. Known as “Tempa Chirim,” meaning “Prayer for World Peace,” the festival is one of the most important spiritual celebrations in the Himalayan region.
Celebrated annually for centuries, the three-day festival features vibrant masked dances, traditional rituals, and sacred chants performed by the monks of Lo Manthang Monastery. The ceremony tells the legendary story of Dorje Jono defeating a demon to save the Kingdom of Mustang, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and prayers for peace and harmony in the world.
