निम्स दाइ (निर्मल पुर्जा) परिचय
Nirmal Purja, जसलाई संसारभर "निम्स दाइ" भनेर चिनिन्छ, नेपालका विश्वप्रसिद्ध पर्वतारोही, साहसिक अन्वेषक, प्रेरणादायी वक्ता तथा मानवसेवी हुन्। उहाँको जन्म म्याग्दी जिल्लाको दाना गाऊमा भएको हो। पूर्व ब्रिटिश गोर्खा सैनिक तथा विशेष फौज (Special Boat Service - SBS) मा सेवा गरेपछि उहाँले आफ्नो जीवन पर्वतारोहणतर्फ समर्पित गर्नुभयो।
सन् २०१९ मा उहाँले Project Possible अन्तर्गत विश्वका ८,००० मिटरभन्दा अग्ला सबै १४ वटा हिमाल केवल ६ महिना ६ दिन मा आरोहण गरेर नयाँ विश्व कीर्तिमान कायम गर्नुभयो। यो उपलब्धिले विश्व पर्वतारोहण इतिहासमा नयाँ अध्याय थप्यो।
निम्स दाइ आफ्नो साहस, नेतृत्व, अनुशासन र "Nothing is Impossible" भन्ने सकारात्मक सोचका लागि परिचित हुनुहुन्छ। उहाँले हिमाल आरोहणसँगै उद्धार कार्य, मानवीय सहयोग र नेपाली पर्वतारोहणको अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय पहिचान बढाउन पनि महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिनुभएको छ।

Nirmal “Nims” Purja, MBE (25 July 1983 – July 2026) was a Nepalese-born British mountaineer, former Gurkha soldier, and former member of the British Special Boat Service (SBS). He became one of the greatest high-altitude climbers in history by redefining what many experts believed was physically impossible
Early Life
Nirmal Purja was born on 25 July 1983 in the small village of Dana in Nepal’s Myagdi District, near the Dhaulagiri mountain range. His family lived in poverty. His father had served as a Gurkha soldier, while his mother worked in agriculture. Because his parents belonged to different castes, they faced discrimination and financial hardship. Despite these challenges, Purja dreamed of becoming a Gurkha like his father and older brothers. His brothers later helped pay for his education at an English-speaking boarding school.
Military Career
At the age of 18, Purja joined the Brigade of Gurkhas in the British Army in 2003. Six years later, he passed the demanding selection process for the elite Special Boat Service (SBS), becoming the first Gurkha ever admitted to the unit.
During his 16-year military career, he served in combat operations, specialized in cold-weather warfare, and earned a reputation for exceptional endurance and leadership. In 2018, he left the military to pursue mountaineering full-time.
Beginning His Climbing Career
Remarkably, Purja had no formal climbing background until his late twenties.
* 2012: Climbed Lobuche East.
* 2014: Summited his first 8,000-meter peak, Dhaulagiri.
* 2016: Reached the summit of Mount Everest for the first time.
* 2017: Led the Gurkha Everest Expedition celebrating 200 years of Gurkha service.
World Records and Greatest Achievements
Purja became famous worldwide in 2019 through Project Possible.
His objective was to climb all 14 mountains higher than 8,000 meters in one climbing season. At the time, the existing record was over 7 years.
He completed the challenge in 6 months and 6 days (189 days)—an achievement many experts had considered impossible. The fourteen peaks included:

First Winter Ascent of K2
In January 2021, Purja led an all-Nepali team that completed the first successful winter ascent of K2, the world’s second-highest and one of its most dangerous mountains. Before beginning the final summit push, the team stopped just below the summit to sing Nepal’s national anthem together—an iconic moment in mountaineering history.
High-Altitude Rescues
Purja was respected not only for his speed but also for his willingness to rescue others. He took part in several difficult rescue missions on Everest, Annapurna, and other Himalayan peaks, often risking his own life to save climbers stranded in the “death zone.” His actions earned widespread admiration.

Final Expedition and Death
In late July 2026, Purja was leading an international expedition on Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram range when a massive avalanche struck the team. He died at the age of 43. His death was confirmed after search and recovery operations, and tributes poured in from climbers, governments, and mountaineering organizations around the world.
Legacy
Nirmal Purja changed modern mountaineering by proving that human limits could be pushed far beyond conventional expectations. From growing up in poverty in rural Nepal to becoming one of history’s most accomplished climbers, his life inspired millions.
