The vibrant Yartung Festival has begun in Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang, bringing three days of celebration, tradition, and community spirit to the ancient Himalayan kingdom.
Celebrated from 17โ19 August 2026 (Bhadra 1โ3), Yartung is one of the most important traditional festivals of the Loba people of Upper Mustang. The festival brings together local communities, families, monks, and visitors to celebrate with traditional horse races, music, dancing, feasting, and cultural gatherings.
At the heart of the celebration is the spectacular horse racing tradition, where skilled riders showcase their horsemanship against the dramatic backdrop of Mustangโs high-altitude landscape. Beyond the races, Yartung is a time for people to come together, reconnect with their traditions, and celebrate their unique cultural heritage.
For these three days, the historic streets of Lo Manthang come alive with horses, traditional attire, music, and centuries-old Himalayan traditions.
