The vibrant Yartung Festival has begun in Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang, bringing three days of celebration, tradition, and community spirit to the ancient Himalayan kingdom.

Celebrated from 17โ€“19 August 2026 (Bhadra 1โ€“3), Yartung is one of the most important traditional festivals of the Loba people of Upper Mustang. The festival brings together local communities, families, monks, and visitors to celebrate with traditional horse races, music, dancing, feasting, and cultural gatherings.

At the heart of the celebration is the spectacular horse racing tradition, where skilled riders showcase their horsemanship against the dramatic backdrop of Mustangโ€™s high-altitude landscape. Beyond the races, Yartung is a time for people to come together, reconnect with their traditions, and celebrate their unique cultural heritage.

For these three days, the historic streets of Lo Manthang come alive with horses, traditional attire, music, and centuries-old Himalayan traditions.

Tilicho Lake Trek โ€“ Short Information

Tilicho Lake Trek is one of the most beautiful high-altitude treks in Nepal. Located in the Annapurna region at an elevation of 4,919 meters, Tilicho Lake is known as one of the highest lakes in the world.

The trek takes you through beautiful mountain villages, green forests, rivers, waterfalls, and stunning Himalayan landscapes. Along the way, you can enjoy views of Annapurna, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and other snow-covered mountains.

The trek usually begins from the Manang area and includes a challenging hike to Tilicho Lake. Because of the high altitude, proper acclimatization is important. The best seasons for the Tilicho Lake Trek are spring (Marchโ€“May) and autumn (Septemberโ€“November).

Three Nepali Mountaineersโ€™ Bodies Repatriated to Kathmandu
The bodies of three veteran Nepali mountaineers, Kili Pemba Sherpa (Kilu), Gyalu Sherpa (Gyaljen), and Nima Sherpa, arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 4:45 PM.

They lost their lives in a tragic avalanche on Broad Peak (8,047 meters) in Pakistan on July 30, 2026. The three climbers were part of an international expedition team that was caught in the deadly avalanche between Camp 2 and Camp 3.

Their bodies were repatriated to Nepal on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha and arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

Earlier, another Nepali climber from the same tragic incident, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), was repatriated to Nepal on August 6, 2026.

The loss of these four Nepali mountaineers is a great sorrow for Nepalโ€™s mountaineering community. Their courage, dedication, and contribution to mountaineering will always be remembered.
May their souls rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and the entire mountaineering community.
