One of the most beautiful trekking adventures in the Himalayas, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a remote and spectacular journey around the world’s eighth-highest mountain, Mount Manaslu (8,163 m). The trek lies in a restricted region of Nepal, making it less crowded than many other trekking routes while still offering incredible Himalayan scenery, unique culture, and authentic mountain villages.
Duration of the Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit Trek can be completed in different durations depending on trekking pace and itinerary. Fast-paced trekkers may finish the trek in about 8–10 days, but the recommended itinerary is around 14 days.
This longer itinerary allows proper acclimatization and optional visits, such as to the beautiful Pungyen Gompa (4,000 m). Taking extra time helps trekkers safely prepare for crossing the high mountain pass.
Starting and Ending Points of the Trek
The trek usually begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu (1,400 m) to Machha Khola (930 m). From Machha Khola, the trekking journey begins along the Budhi Gandaki River through traditional villages and forest trails.
Trekkers gradually ascend through villages such as:

* Deng (1,860 m)
* Namrung (2,630 m)
* Samagaun (3,530 m)
* Samdo (3,875 m)
* Dharmasala (4,460 m)
The highest point of the trek is the famous Larkya La Pass (5,106 m), one of the most dramatic Himalayan passes.
After crossing the pass, the trail descends to Bimthang (3,720 m) and continues to Dharapani (1,963 m), where the trek ends.
From Dharapani, trekkers drive to Besisahar and continue back to Kathmandu or to Pokhara.
Permits Required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek
Since the Manaslu region is a restricted trekking area, trekkers must obtain several permits before starting the trek. These permits include:
* Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)
* Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)
* Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
* Chumnubri Rural Municipality Permit
In addition, trekking in the Manaslu region requires a licensed guide, and the trek must be arranged through a registered trekking agency.
Trekking Difficulty and Experience Level
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers with good physical fitness. The trek includes several days of hiking at high altitude and crossing a mountain pass above 5,000 meters, which requires proper acclimatization.

The best seasons for trekking the Manaslu Circuit are:

-Spring (March – May) Warm temperatures and blooming rhododendron forests make this another great season.
Winter (December – February) trekking is possible, but colder and chances of snow at high altitudes.
-Monsoon (June – August) trekking is less common due to rain, but still possible with proper planning.
