Tsum was a hidden valley, now open to all recently, is said to be Beyul Kyimolung- "The Hidden Valley of Happiness" according to ancient scriptures and as described by Guru Padmasambava (8th century saint). A valley that branches off the Budi Gandaki and stretches along the remote borderlands of the high Himalaya towards the north of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and Buddha Himal in upper Gorkha has high influence of Tibetan Buddhism. And takes about 5 days walk from the nearest bus stop, Arugat. The inhabitants are known as Tsumpa.Due to the isolation, remoteness and inaccessibility, the valley had been detached from the rest of the world for centuries. ancient Himalayan civilization, styles, their unique culture, tradition, customs, religion and their ancient relics. This valley is the newest trekking destination and most virgin trekking routes of all.
This remote Tibetan community has a long history, almost 100 years of following a tradition of not slaughtering animal, either domestic or wild. This unique culture was initiated by 1st Drukpa Rinpoche.
Tsum Welfare Committee(TWC) a local NGO is going to organize Tsum Festival 2012 declaring Tsum as non-killing zone to rest of the world and celebrating 100 years of Shyakya anniversary(non-killing)
TWC will organize a sign campaign with Prime minister of Nepal, 2nd Drukpa Rinpoche, high Lamas and locals from the valley on April 25 to April 28, 2012 to celebrate its century old Shyakya make it formally known to outsiders.
So with the influx of tourist and in future the construction of road into this hidden valley, will this valley of happiness maintain its century old tradition? So we will all wait for April 25th 2012 of how the locals react for the preservation the tradition.
