Happy 13th International Sagarmatha (Everest) Day 2020!!!

67 years ago today, May 29, 1953; Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary were the first team to successfully climb Mt. Everest. Like all good partnerships, they were stronger together, overcoming near-impossible odds to assure their place in history. :-)

The Embassy has formally requested that the Government of Nepal assist us as we facilitate the departure of U.S. citizens from Nepal. The Embassy is exploring flight options that will depart from Kathmandu once the permission is granted. At this time we have no further details, including timeline for these arrangements, but will provide them as they become available. Arrangements such as these take time, as there are many moving parts, so we ask for patience and that all shelter in place until we have further information about a flight or multiple flights. In preparation, we are asking all U.S. citizens who are interested in departing Nepal, even if you have already been in contact with us, to fill out this web-based Microsoft Form with more official information.

Cost for any potential flight(s) have not been determined at this time, but it may be that a cost will be incurred.

Collect essential documents and other items and keep them in one place
Keep in mind that you may be limited in how much luggage you can take
It is probable that pets will not be accommodated. Please make alternate arrangements for the care of your pet.

Consult the U.S. Embassy website for updates on Nepal-specific COVID-19 information, entry to and exit from Nepal, quarantine information, and for other local resource contact information.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.

A TEAM of nine medical experts left Shanghai, being sent by the Red Cross Society of China for Rome this Thursday evening to support COVID-19 prevention and control in Italy. The experts are flying via China Eastern Airlines along with 31 tons of Intensive Care Equipment, Medical Appliances, Masks & Anti-Virus Medication. Xinhua News Agency reported a foreign ministry spokesman as saying that China & countries in Europe had been in close communication since the outbreak. China has provided similar assistance to Iran and Iraq to contain the spread of the respiratory virus that first broke out in central China. Together we are stronger! :-)

Happy International Tourist Guide Day (ITGD) - 21 February 2020 - to All The Tourist Guides Around The World. Tourists Guides are the cultural ambassadors of the regions they represent.

ITGD is an initiative of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) and is held annually worldwide (on 21st February) to recognise the contributions of the professional tourist guide(s).

Celebrations were held for the first time in 1990 by WFTGA, itself - http://www.wftga.org/ at which time only 15 countries around the world participated and jointly celebrated this special day. It was proposed by the then president of the WFTGA Titina Loizides. Over the years, awareness about this day has grown and to date, more than 70 countries celebrate this event worldwide.

This day is aimed at raising public awareness about the fact that tourists guides are cultural ambassadors of the regions they represent. It is the only global forum for tourist guides from all other the world that unites individual tourists guides, tourist guide associations, educational institutions, and tourism partners.

In Nepal, this day is celebrated with activities and programmes ranging from presentations, motivational talks, excursions, a day of free guided-tours and workshops!
