As a brief blast of perfect weather opened up, hundreds of adrenaline junkies rushed the summit, creating an unbelievable serpentine gridlock right in the mountain's terrifying "death zone."

The record-breaking frenzy pushes this season's total past 500 summits. Nepal’s iconic Kami Rita Sherpa extended his legendary status with a mind-boggling 32nd ascent, while Lhakpa Sherpa dominated the women's records with her 11th climb. Talk about a crowded peak!

Dawa Yangzum Sherpa, a pioneering Nepali mountaineer, made history in October 2024 by becoming the first Nepali woman to conquer all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks. This extraordinary achievement solidifies her as a trailblazer in high-altitude climbing, traditionally a male-dominated field, especially in Nepal. Her journey began in the Khumbu region, where she was born and raised. Inspired by the towering peaks of the Himalayas, she began climbing at a young age, quickly distinguishing herself for her strength, determination, and technical skills.
