Elizabeth Hawley, an American former journalist and chronicler of Himalayan expeditions, has died this morning at CIWEC Hospital, Kathmandu. She came to Nepal in 1960 and never left. Sandesh Acharya, team leader at Adventure Imagine, remembers receiving a phone call from Hawley in the autumn of 2012, where she enquired if the company had planned any mountaineering expeditions that season (Hawley obviously didn't know Sandesh had left the other company and started his own). He told Hawley that he now has a new company so she asked what was the name. "Adventure Imagine" said Sandesh to which Hawley replied, "Oh, that's a wonderful name dear, good luck and let me know when you have climbers going for mountaineering." We have fond memories of Liz Hawley and a deep respect for her relentless work in documenting mountaineering details of Nepal over several decades. Photo - thetimes.co.uk

Sahayog and Sarjan BK, both 14, have exams in 4 days. They are carrying iron rods in hair-raising dangerous hills - to earn some money for their school fees.
