Nepal drabbat av en omfattande klimatkatastrof – behovet av hjĂ€lp Ă€r akut

HÀr kommer en rapport frÄn Raj Kharel om lÀget i Nepal och hur vi hjÀlper bÀst i denna svÄra situation.

"Nepal har drabbats av en omfattande klimatkatastrof med kraftiga störtfloder. Det började pÄ morgonen onsdagen den 26 augusti 2026. Katastrofen utlöstes av ett snabbt jordskred vid en glaciÀr nÀra grÀnsen mellan Nepal och Kina. Detta ledde till omfattande översvÀmningar med slam och stenmassor som strÀckte sig nÀrmare 100 kilometer nedströms och förstörde mÄnga samhÀllen i Nepal.

Enligt de senaste rapporterna har fler Àn 1 000 mÀnniskor omkommit i Nepal. Tusentals mÀnniskor har skadats eller saknas fortfarande. Katastrofen har Àven drabbat omrÄden pÄ andra sidan grÀnsen, i Tibet.

Rita, som nu efter sin resa i Norge och Sverige nu Äterigen befinner sig i Nepal, rapporterar att de statliga sjukhusen i Kathmandu för nÀrvarande Àr överfulla med patienter som drabbats av översvÀmningarna. Hon bedömer att situationen kommer att bestÄ under ytterligare nÄgra mÄnader. Eftersom BAS ligger nÀra flera av dessa sjukhus har organisationen goda möjligheter att framöver hjÀlpa mÄnga av de drabbade patienterna.

Trots detta Àr vÄr rekommendation just nu att inte ge stöd direkt till BAS, utan till den nationella fonden Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. Anledningen Àr att den nepalesiska regeringen, som för nÀrvarande gör ett omfattande arbete med ÄterhÀmtningen efter katastrofen, har rekommenderat att stödet samlas i en gemensam och strategisk fond i stÀllet för att delas upp mellan mÄnga olika insamlingar.

Genom att samla stödet pÄ detta sÀtt kan pengarna styras dit behovet Àr som störst, i stÀllet för att spridas ut pÄ mÄnga mindre insatser. BAS har förtroende för denna strategi eftersom vi ser att konkreta ÄtgÀrder redan vidtas pÄ regeringsnivÄ.
