Dashain, one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals in Nepal, is a Hindu festival that typically falls in September and October lasting for 15 days. This festival symbolizes the devil who terrorized the heaven and earth. Since it was hard for gods to defeat Mahisasura, In their desperation later turned into divine feminine energy Durga who embarked a fierce battle with Mahisasura raging the battle for nine days and nights. Finally Victory of Durga over Mahisasura on tenth day, marking the triumph of good over evil.
It is believed that, Feminine goddess visits the home of her devotees and they perform various rituals to honor her and seek blessing. This time as a family gathering and feasts is celebrated by putting Tika and Jamara which is the symbol of protection and good Fortune reinforcing the bond of love and respect between family and relations. The celebration of faith, triumph and enduring spirit of people holds special place in heart of hindu community and need to be continued as significant cultural and religious event that brings families and communities together to celebrate as a heritage value.
