The temple of Pashupatinath is located on the bank of Bagmati river. It is the most sacred river for Hindus in Nepal. The temple of Pashupatinath is a symbol of peace and prosperity. It is also known as a divine protector of Nepal.According to the legend long time ago there was a man who had many cows but among them there was one cow who never gave him milk. One day he wants to know that why his cow never gave him milk and he found that that cow always used to go to the same place where the temple of pashupatinath is located and gave milk to the god. When he knew about that he had a curiosity that why his cow always give milk on the same place. He went there with his Friends and dug in the ground and found a huge Ideal of lord shiva which is called Jyotirlinga. When they found That ideal it came a huge fire from that ideal and everyone who dug that place they died from the fire and after that the son of the cow honour whose name was Bhuktaman became the first king of Nepal. There are five priest in the temple. One of them is a local priest from Nepal known as Bhandari and the four priest are from South India and except the Indian priest no one is allowed to touch the ideal of lord Pashupatinath. There are many festivals of the temple Shivaratri,T**z and Balachaturdashi are the main festivals of the temple.Shivaratri falls in February.During this festival around one million Hindu pilgrims from around the world visit this temple.Thousands of Sadhus from Nepal and India comes in this temple to celebrate this festival. Many people also smoke meriona and pray with lord shiva during this festival. The temple of pashupatinath is built by king prachanda Dev In the 4th century.when the temple was built it was five story. In the 14th century mughals came from India and destroyed the temple later it was rebuild in the 16th century Queen Ganga Rani. The present two story pagoda style temple is from the 16th century.Monday and Saturday are the special days of the temple. In these days many hindu pilgrims visit this temple.

In Hinduism Hindu people cremate the dead body. There is a belief in Hinduism that the human body is made from 5 different elements like air, water, fire, sky and earth and when the body is cremated 5 different elements of the the body goes back in the nature and come back as a new body.Hindus always cremate the body on the bank of the river. In Nepal most of the dead bodies are cremate on the bank of Bagmati river which the most sacred river for Hindus in Nepal. There is a belief that people who are cremated on the bank of Bagmati river can reduce from the cycle of birth and dead.at the beginning dead bodies of Hindus are brought to the bank of the bagmati river and place on a sacred stone known as Brahmanal and the family members perform the purification rituals of the dead bodies.first the family members take off the clothes which is wearing by the dead person and they wash the feet and face because feet is considered as the dirtiest part of the external body and everyone who participate at the funneral ceremony can see the face of the dead person so that they clean those part of the body.after that the body is covered by the white and orange clothes.in Hinduism white colour is the symbol of mourning and purity and orange is a symbol of sacrifice.people who participate at the funneral ceremony offers red colour and flowers to the dead person because flower represent heart and red means love in hinduism.when people offer flowers.that means they have a connection from their heart with the dead person and by offering red colour they express their best love to the dead person.once the purification ritual is finished the sons carry the body on a bamboo strecher and take the body to the place where the wooden pyre is ready. At the beginning the sons goes 3 times around the wooden pyre by carrying the body and place the body on the top of the wooden pyre .the eldest son lights the first fire.it's the son who needs to start the first fire that's why most of the Hindu people wants to have a son in their family but as the society is changing day by day some of the daughters have also started to light first fire.the eldest son start the fire from the mouth because when we take birth in this world we take the first breath from our mouth and when we die the last breath goes out from the mouth so that mouth is considered as an important part of the body.it takes 3 to 4 Hours to cremate one body and the person who work as a funeral undertaker is a brahmin priest.once the cremation is finished the ashes pushed into the river.it cost 10000 rupees minimum to cremate one body that includes everything.when it finished the family needs to perform 13 days mourning ceremony.for the 13 days ceremony the sons shave their hair and wear a white clothes. They stay in one room for 13 days and no one is allowed to touch them for 13 days.During this period the family have fasting and meat, salt alchool and oil is not allowed to eat.while performing this ceremony the sons waku up early in the morning and take a shower after that they need to offer offerings to the dead person with the help of a priest.Aftef 13 days they will be free from this mourning ceremony and can start a normal life again but still for a year they are not allowed to celebrate any festival and perfoem ceremonies.its a culture to cremate the bodies in hindu religion but children under 5 years and holymen sadhus are burried inside the ground because cremation is a process of purification but the soul of sadhus and children is already pure so that they don't need to purify again
