Mount Annapurna I is the highest peak of the Annapurna massif in the Himalayas, located in north-central Nepal. Standing at 8,091 meters (26,545 feet) above sea level, it is the 10th highest mountain in the world. Annapurna I is particularly notable for its climbing difficulty and high fatality rate, making it one of the most dangerous 8,000-meter peaks to summit. The first successful ascent of Annapurna I was achieved by a French expedition led by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal on June 3, 1950, marking the first time an 8,000-meter peak was climbed. The Annapurna massif includes several other major peaks, such as Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, and Annapurna South.
