MAY 21 UPDATE FROM THE HILLARY STEP — MOUNT EVEREST 🏔️

One line. One rope. Hundreds of dreams above 8,000 meters.

Today the Hillary Step turned into a massive traffic jam as climbers from multiple expedition teams waited for hours in the death zone just for a single chance to move forward. Some teams spent nearly 3 hours crossing this dangerous section due to extreme congestion and slow movement at high altitude.

The footage shows exhausted climbers clipped into fixed ropes, standing shoulder to shoulder above the clouds where oxygen is critically low and every extra minute can become life threatening. ❄️

Several accidents and close calls were witnessed during the push. Climbers slipping while changing ropes, signs of severe fatigue, and dangerous exposure reminded everyone how unforgiving Everest truly is.

Through it all, Sherpas and mountain guides worked nonstop to manage safety, assist struggling climbers, and help teams move through one of the most dangerous bottlenecks on the mountain. 🙏

This is the reality of Everest during a short weather window — beautiful, brutal, crowded, and unpredictable.

Massive respect to every climber, Sherpa, and rescue team risking everything in these extreme conditions. ❤️
