JUGAL HIMAL

Jugal Himal trek is one of the nearest trekking spot from capital city. The Himalayan mountain ranges towering 30 kilometers, due north of Kathmandu valley are known as the Jugal and Langtang Himals. Jugal Himal trekking area is not very common area and but it is quite amazing trekking area. The trekking routes pass through the tropical forests and some narrow trials. The people residing in this area are Tamang. On this trek we explore the vain leys and the ridges which extend to the south of these Himal and which offer some of the best off-the-beaten-trail trekking in Nepal.
Starting near Kathmandu, we trek across the Sherpa valley of Helambu, and then climb to the alpine ridges of Yangri Danda that rise next to the Panch Pokhari Lake (alpine ridge). We walk along this ridge for a few days looking at the numerous peaks of Jugal Himal and cross over the pass of G***a La (5,200m./17073ft.) to enter into the Langtang valley.
Entering Langtang, we continue eastward to the yak pasture called Langshisa Kharka and then fork to the right following Langshisa glacier between the peaks of Gangchenpo (6387m./20955ft.) and Langshisa Ri (6842m./22447ft.) in order to reach the crest of Tilman’s Col. At 5304m./17400ft, this is a difficult crossing with permanent snow and some hidden crevasses. After the pass we try following a high altitude path along the eastern flank of the Panch Pokhari lekh and then follow Balephi Khola to conclude our trek in Belephi. We will take an alternate route in case returning by Panch Phokhari is not feasible.

NAR, PHU & TILICHO LAKE

Nar, Phu & Tilicho Lake a hidden valley trek.
“When you come around the corner, you will see a sight that will move your soul”
So wrote a Nepali guide when this remote northern outpost of Manang region bordered with Tibet was opened for trekkers in 2003.
To begin this Nar, Phu & Tilicho Lake trek, we drive to Besisahar and trek initially following the well-known Annapurna Circuit rail as far as Koto before we enter into the Phu river Valley. Trekking in this area is unlike most of Nepal ? the terrain is Trans Himalayan and similar to that of Tibet. Trails are rugged and at times cut high into cliff sides in an area that has changed little over the years. We first visit the high Phu Village, which like a medieval castle, rises almost 40m above a dusty riverbed. Steep walls eroded by relentless wind and weather protect the 30-40 basic stone houses sheltered behind, built atop one another like a vertical jigsaw puzzle The we cross the Himlung Khola and enter the wide Nar Valley. After exploring the Nar, Phu villages, we cross the 5200m Kang-La pass and enter the Manang Valley.
In Braga, the route will then rejoin the Annapurna Circuit near Manang from where we will follow the little-used route that leads to the Tilicho Lake and the Meso Kanto Pass (5089m) which link the Manang and Kali Ghandaki Valleys. The crossing of the pass offers a more challenging and exciting alternative to the popular Thorong La Pass on the Annapurna Circuit. After crossing the pass we trek to Jomsom from where we fly back to Pokhara.

STUNNING MT.EVEREST BASE CAMP WEDDING PHOTOS

This has to be one of the most incredible, and challenging, wedding photo shoots we have ever featured. In search of the ultimate adventure destination wedding, photographer Charleton Churchill helped bride and groom Ashley and James capture an epic and grueling wedding at Mt. Everest basecamp.

First, let’s put something in perspective. When you hear “base camp,” you might think it’s not so high up. You’d be wrong. Mt. Everest base camp is situated at a literally breath-taking elevation of 17,600 feet (~5,364 meters) above sea level. The tallest peak in North America, the rockies’ Mount Elbert, tops out at just 14,440 feet (~4,401 meters).

Everything about this photo shoot was going to be grueling—from acclimating to the altitude and lack of oxygen, to dealing with the freezing cold temperatures. Luckily, both photographer and couple had been preparing ahead of their gorgeous flight in.

“I have wanted this Everest wedding so bad for a while, worked hard, trained hard, with much planning, persevered through many obstacles, even surviving an earthquake with another couple in my 2015 attempt,” Churchill tells PetaPixel. “After all this, getting sick, fighting the cold, and with time constraints, we finally accomplished it. I didn’t give up. I pressed on towards the goal.”

The couple also prepared, training for a year and planning to take 2-3 weeks total for the wedding/shoot in order to properly acclimate to the altitude.

But the trek was more difficult than any of them could have prepared for. “Saying this was an epic and amazing trip is true,” writes Churchill on his blog, “but I would be remiss if I didn’t share it came with some suffering, doubt, fear, anxiety, and physical pain.”

Once they scaled beyond 14,000 foot camp, temperatures ranged between -8 to 10°F (-22 to -12° C), making it extremely difficult to stay warm, much less keep your hands from freezing when you took pictures. And by the time they got to base camp, Churchill had been dealt a blow by food poisoning and James had already needed to be put on oxygen to cope with a bout of Khumbu cough (AKA. high altitude hack).

When they finally arrived at base camp, they faced yet another challenge: time. They were told they would have only one hour and 30 minutes to “eat, get married, pack up, and get on a helicopter.” So they set out to accomplish just that.

“We ate, drank, and got married in an hour,” writes Churchill. “James and Ashley exchanged vows at Mt. Everest Base camp right in front of the famous Khumbu ice-fall where people use ladders to maneuver over crevasses, and with the beautifully carved Nuptse Face in the backdrop. Their epic wedding was surrounded by all these famous mountains. It was beautiful, short, and we captured a few photos before packing and getting ready to leave.”

Here are a few of the photos Churchill captured while the bride and groom battled freezing temps and rugged terrain in the name of the most adventurous of adventure weddings:

The amazing wedding photography adventure has earned Churchill international attention, something he was never expecting or prepared for. And although he seems to be enjoying it, the attention was never his goal.

“All this national and international attention is still unreal to me, so I’m still processing it,” he told PetaPixel when we spoke with him. “I don’t consider myself a great business guru, I just want to make great images that move people.”

Mission accomplished…

THE MANI RIMDU FESTIVAL OF TENGBOCHE

The Mani Rimdu festival of Tengboche is performed in the 9th month of the Sherpa Tibetan calendar ( corresponds to 3rd week of October) according to the tradition of Mindroling and came from Rongbuk Monastery north of Tengboche in Tibet. The name comes from “Mani” part of the chant of Chenrezig, and “Rilbu & quot; which are the small red pills, which are blessed throughout the ceremony and distributed to everyone at the end.
At the beginning a beautiful and intricate mandala or sacred diagram is drawn in fine colored sand. The sand is collected from a special place high in the mountains. It takes four days to complete the mandala then it is covered and used as a focus for the next ten days meditation.
At the end of the ceremonies the monks perform the sacred mask dances known as Cham. There are sixteen dances with some comic interludes that delight the crowds. These dances are
a recreation of the establishment of Buddhism in the Himalayas by the legendary Padmasambhava, known as Guru Rinpoche. The dances convey Buddhist teachings on many levels from the simplest truth to the most profound realization. Throughout the dances, symbolic demons are conquered, dispeled or subdued. The symbolism can be interpreted on many levels; the inner “demons” of hatred, greed and ignor.
