DAY 3 -

We got up early and had a good breakfast before heading off around 8am.

The hike started off gradually and wound its way through lots of Sherpa villages - some names I remember were Tok Tok, Benkar and Monjo.

We passed lots of lovely water falls and got some good views to some snow capped mountains.

At Monjo we went through a check point at the entry to Sagarmantha National Park where there were lots of information about animals of the area and interesting facts.

From here we dropped down to the Dudh Koshi river and made our way along to the Hilary Bridge. I was a bit nervous about crossing this one.

In reality crossing the bridge wasn't scary at all (perhaps it would be if you didn't like heights). The views back down to Monjo were impressive.

Then it was time to start the long climb up to Namche. We kept a very steady pace and the guides were brilliant at encouraging us.

We stopped at the half way point to get our first view of Everest but sadly the cloud was down so we weren't lucky.

I spent my time trying to spot some wildlife. I saw a number of birds but sadly no red panda.

The view of Namche as we came around that last corner was incredible. It has the most perfect location surrounded by many gigantic peaks.

From our hotel we had the most impressive view over to Kongde.

Namche was such a brilliant place with so many fab cafes, bars, shops etc.

Tomorrow we would go and explore this wonderful place. Tonight it was time for a hot mango and then dinner as I was feeling a bit tired.

Please note : photos are not in order.

DAY 2 -

To Lukla and Beyond

The alarm sounded at 5am, although there was little need, as I was already wide awake.

Despite the comfy hotel I didn't sleep overly well - a combination of jet lag, apprehension and excitement - I think!

After a quick bite to eat we set off to Kathmandu domestic airport to fly to Lukla.

After a short wait we boarded the plane and left for Lukla around 7.30am.

The plane journey was certainly an experience and not nearly as scary as I was expecting. The views were incredible and like nothing I have ever seen before. Just WOW!! The landing at Lukla was exciting!

Upon landing we had breakfast in Lukla and met the rest of our team before starting the trek.

Walking through the streets of Lukla was an experience. There were groups of cows (I believe called Jyos - yak x cow) carrying supplies walking along the main street.

After leaving Lukla the first part of the trek was downhill. The views were stunning.

We passed lots of mani stones and mani walls - important prayer stones / walls in scripted with Buddhism tibetan script. The guides explained to always where possible go round the stones and walls from the left to right.

The guides also taught us about other aspects of Buddhist culture such as prayer wheels, prayer flags (to blow the blessings in the wind), stupas and monasteries.

We also got to cross our first suspension bridge which was certainly an experience. They are very bouncy.

We saw lots of transport donkeys carrying all sorts of loads.

After 6 hours or so we arrived in Phakding. Our stop for the night and enjoyed a lovely daal bhat meal.

The hike today was enjoyable and not too much of a challenge - perhaps lulling the group into a false sense of security?

I slept well... Relaxed, comfortable and cosy.

DAY 1 -

Arrival day in Kathmandu.

From the minute you step off the plane the sights and smells of this extraordinary and intriguing place hit you.

Kathmandu is like no place I have ever been. Quirky, unique and just total madness rolled into one!

We placed my giant suitcase on the roof of a very small taxi and drove to a beautiful boutique hotel in the Thamel district, through hustling and bustling streets.

Thamel is the trekking hub of Kathmandu. There are mountaineering shops everywhere containing everything you could possibly need to suit all budgets. Bars and restaurants are a plenty too containing cuisines from all over the world.

After a quick bite of lunch I went to explore the city and my travels took me to a number of interesting sites.

First up was Monkey Temple a stupa high up on the hill where lots of monkeys run around. Be careful they will sn**ch things from you.

Next on the list was the biggest stupa in Kathmandu. I even went to visit a Mandala art museum and to see how these are made was so interesting. The level of skill in breathtaking.

It was back to the hotel before heading out for an early ish dinner as the next day I had a super early start for our flight to Lukla.

The Adventure was really about to begin!!!

It combines this with stunning views of the himalayas.

Our 14 day itinerary follows the route starting in Machha Khola and finishing in Besisahar.

The trek is fully guided with a government licensed Guide with good english.

For more information please don't hesitate to pop us a message.
