𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶 is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of the deity Shiva. The festival commemorates the wedding of Shiva and Parvati, and the occasion that Shiva performs his divine dance, called the Tandava. It is observed by remembering Shiva and chanting prayers, fasting, and meditating on ethics and virtues such as honesty, non-injury to others, charity, forgiveness, and the discovery of Shiva. Ardent devotees stay awake throughout this night. Others visit one of the Shiva temples or go on a pilgrimage to the Jyotirlingams. The festival is believed to have originated in 5th century BCE.

INDRA JATRA is a major festival in Kathmandu, celebrating Indra, the Hindu god of rain and king of heaven. It marks the beginning of the festive season in the valley and blends Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The festival lasts for eight days, featuring vibrant chariot processions of the Living Goddess Kumari, traditional masked dances, and the erecting of a ceremonial pole symbolizing Indra’s descent. According to legend, Indra was imprisoned by the locals while searching for flowers, and upon his release, he blessed the valley with abundant rainfall. Indra Jatra is both a religious and cultural event, showcasing the rich heritage of Kathmandu.

After a four-year hiatus, foreign nationals can once again cross the Nepal-India border at Kakarvitta-Panitanki. The travel restrictions, imposed by the immigration department of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs during the Covid-19 pandemic, have now been lifted, reopening the land port.
The border is 21kms from Bhadrapur airport (Nepal) and 21.5kms from Bagdogra airport (India).

Find peace and prayers on the little hillock of Swaymbhunath in the northwest of Kathmandu Valley. Visitors for whom the name was a tongue twister have called it "Monkey Temple" from the 1970s. Swayambhu, overlooks most parts of the valley giving visitors a panoramic view of the city. The stupa has stood as a hallmark of faith and harmony for centuries with Hindu temples and deities incorporated in this Buddhist site. The glory of Kathmandu Valley is said to have started from this point.
Resting on a hillock 3 km west of Kathmandu, Swayambhu is one of the holiest Buddhist stupas in Nepal. It is said to have evolved spontaneously when the valley was created out of a primordial lake more than 2,000 years ago. This stupa is the oldest of its kind in Nepal and has numerous shrines and monasteries on its premises.
