📍Where is it celebrated?
The Tiji Festival takes place in Lo Manthang, the ancient walled capital of Upper Mustang, a remote Himalayan desert region near the Tibetan border. This area preserves strong Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditions.

📅 When is it celebrated?
Tiji is celebrated every year for three days in May, according to the Tibetan lunar calendar. The exact dates change annually, but it usually falls in spring when Upper Mustang becomes accessible.

🎭 What is Tiji Festival?
“Tiji” comes from the word Tempa Chirim, meaning “Prayer for World Peace and Prosperity.”

☸️It is a sacred Buddhist ritual based on the legend of Dorje Jono, a deity who fought against his demon father to protect the world from destruction, drought, and suffering.

Through powerful masked dances (Cham dances) performed by monks of the Choede Monastery, the story is brought to life.
