Tiji Festival, also known as Tenchi, is a sacred Buddhist ritual celebrated annually in Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang. Scheduled to take place from May 14 to May 16, 2026 (Baishakh 31 to Jestha 2, 2083 B.S.), the name comes from Tenpa Chirim, meaning “benefit of Buddha’s teachings and all sentient beings.”

The festival is based on the meditation practice of Vajrakila (also called Dorje Phurba or Vajrakumar), a powerful deity in Vajrayana Buddhism known for removing negative forces.

The number of trekkers on the world-renowned Annapurna Circuit hit an all-time high last year.

The Annapurna Conservation Area, home to several world-class treks—including the Annapurna Sanctuary and Annapurna Circuit—welcomes more than 200,000 trekkers annually.

Last year, 30,866 foreigners went on the trek, one typically done by wealthy adventurers.

Today is - literally sacred thread full moon - Hindu festival, when men practice the annual ritual of changing - worn across chest. - thread of protection - are also tied around one's wrists. This day is also celebrated as when sisters tie thread around brothers' wrists to mark the close sibling bond.

After the rituals, the day is usually enjoyed feasting on delicacies, especially - lentil sprout - varieties and spending time with family. We wish all celebrating a Happy Janai Purnima!
