(Who can Trek?)
As challenging as the name may sound, Everest Base Camp trek is not that difficult in fact. The pains and aches which some may feel initially would subside gradually leaving the delightful trove of memories. People of all ages, shapes and sizes have successfully completed the EBC trek over the years. However, Sound Health and physical fitness with minimum of 10 years and maximum of 70 years of age on an average is highly advisable though there is no official Everest Base camp age limit. No serious health issues and mid-range fitness is highly recommended.
In order to prevent altitude sickness, ample acclimatization, good food, enough sleep and staying hydrated is given high importance during the trek. People who follow the standard route itinerary, acclimatize well and monitor their symptoms like -nausea, dizziness, vomiting and headache- will not suffer from any sort of altitude sickness. EBC trek does not require any technical expertise or mountaineering skills. However, we recommend a few 4 to 6 hours trek at home to get used to walking longer hours with light pack. Some regular exercises prior to embarking on the trek like jogging, swimming, aerobics would enhance your flexibility and endurance level.
(Best Season)
The spring season or the pre monsoon (February - May) and Post- monsoon (September- December) are perfect for trekking and sightseeing. Especially, February through May is considered the peak season due to the perfect weather with clear views of mountain and verdant hillside covered with rhododendron. Also, September, October and November will provide clear and spectacular views of mountains. The region during December- February can be described as very cold having shorter days. But it is entirely possible to trek during these months. It is suggested to expect cold temperature (higher up -20c/-41F to -30C/-22F) and prepare well with the correct gear. The monsoon season is in full swing from June - August making it difficult to trek due to slipper trails and short, sharp downpours.
(Hotels)
There are a variety of hotels and lodges along the Everest Base Camp Trail. At the beginning, our accommodation includes the features of private rooms, in-room shower, flush toilets, heating blankets and electric lights. Lodges offer local food like dal, Bhaat as well as western-style dishes like Pizza, spaghetti, cake, noodles etc. As you go higher, the facilities are more basic and the price more costly due the high cost of transporting the supplies.
