32 Tour Guides, 3 Resource persons and 1 purpose!
On the 19th July, we brought 32 Partner guides who have worked with us for a Tour Guide Excellence Workshop.
Three segments anchored the four hours. Samir Thapa, president of UN Global Compact Nepal, spoke on what excellent service asks of the person providing it and how can it be build around sustainable practices. Pankaj Pradhananga, our CEO, showed how a guide builds engaging, immersive experiences - a spirit of Tourism for all. Dr. Naresh Shakya, a scholar of traditional Buddhist art and culture, explored the traditions that anchor Nepali life and how guides keep them present in their work.
The room held decades of experience in various languages: German, Italian, Spanish, English, Japanese and Chinese. In one exercise, we asked each guide to recall a moment when they gave a client something no itinerary promised. Some had moved guests to tears. Others had rebuilt trips mid-route without a visible seam. One had a birthday cake delivered to his guest on elephant back, mid-safari in Chitwan.
Everyone left with something new, us included.
