In deep sorrow, Imagine Nepal invites our team, our partners, our well-wishers, friends, and all members of the mountaineering community to join us at ๐๐๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ญ ๐:๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐, as we receive our beloved Kili Pemba Sherpa โKilu,โ arriving on Qatar Airways.
Arriving with him are our brothers Nima Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa, lost in the same avalanche. We receive all three of them together, and we grieve for all three families.
Please come and help us bring him home.
On 3 July 2026, he stood on the summit of Nanga Parbat and completed all 14 of the worldโs peaks above 8,000 meters. Only a small handful of climbers in history have ever done this. He had waited thirty years for that moment. He had twenty-seven days to hold it.
His achievements:
- All 14 8000โer completed, 3 July 2026
- Guinness World Record holder as one of the 10 Nepali climbers to climb K2 in winter
- 15 summits of Mount Everest, the first in 2003
- Fixed ropes and opened routes on some of the worldโs hardest mountains, and took part in many rescue operations, saving the lives of others
- Established the route to the true summit of Manaslu in 2021 with Mingma G; the route climbers still follow today
- Guided a double amputee, to the summit of Everest in 2018 & Manaslu in 2021
- Began work in the mountains at just 16 years old, as a porter
He was taken from us by the avalanche on Broad Peak on 30 July 2026.
Those of us who climbed with him will remember something the records cannot hold. He was quiet. He never spoke of himself. He was patient with every client and steady with every teammate. People who climbed with him once came back to him for twenty years.
He gave his life to the mountains, and to the dreams of the people he guided there. Come and stand with us. ๐
