Kristin has summited Manaslu – Peak 12 of 14 in !

Kristin summited Manaslu (8163 m) – the eight-heighest mountain in the world – today at 2.36 p.m. local time with and from as the first team this season.

"This was hard, but we wanted to summit Manaslu now to avoid the crowd of climbers waiting in the basecamp. Heavy snowfall and high risk of avalanches made this ascend challenging, so I am glad we made it", Kristin says in a message from the summit of Manaslu.

Most of the other climbers returned to basecamp due to the adverse conditions.

She needs only two more mountains to complete the and possible be the fastest to summit all 14 peaks over 8000 metres. She still awaits permit from Chinese government to climb Shishapangma (and Cho Oyu). The final deadline is 2 November.

"I have already proved that women can break barriers. I hope I get a fair chance to set the record, it would mean a lot for women in mountaineering."

Thanks to our headline sponsor and other sponsors and supporters for getting Kristin so far. Please do support her amazing effort, all help is needed to complete this project. Head over to GoFundMe (link in bio) and make your contribution or contact her on email for sponsorship deals.

Expedition mode...
It's getting closer to fly out to Pakistan for another 8000m
climb attempt. I always feel slightly overwhelmed few days
before departing, how to line up the personal life to be out
of comms for 6-8weeks. Doesn't matter how often I do this
routine it always feels a bit stressful.
I know this stress is a good think and it slowly switch the
focus on the mountain, nature, your team and your self.
That's a beautiful journey to take so I'm getting more and
more excited .

.g.h :Planet basecamp. Feels like different world sometimes. If anyone has some spare Russian gasmasks and wants to film a dodgy sci fi movie I'd be super keen.

: The south col.
Camp 4 ~ 8,000m The death zone. It's hard to
describe how difficult camp 3 to 4 was. I had to dig
deep. I was carrying a heavy pack and it was super
steep and icy going up the higher part of the Lhotse
face. It was probably my hardest day. We had been in
the tent for two days waiting for the storm to pass
then got told we are out of here asap. Getting going
was tough. A real grind. We arrived at the south col at
6pm. Thankfully, we were told tonight would not be
summit night and to sit tight. Camp 4: A stunning yet
wild place. So windy that we just got thrown into
tents. I didn't notice the unfortunate man Who was
lying in the tent next to ours had recently passed
away in the early season summit window. I was joined
by my pal We had a tough night
ahead. One neither of us will ever forget.

Climbing Mount Everest is among the most
dangerous pursuits in the world with a fatality rate of 6.5
per cent of climbers who attempt to summit.
To date almost 300 people have died trying to climb the
world's highest mountain, and some 4,500 have summited.
Nevertheless, its status as the world's highest mountain at
8,848.86m (29,029ft) means it will always attract climbers
irrespective of the risks involved
Avalanches, cracking ice flows and deadly crevices are just
some of the obstacles faced by climbers. The chief
impediment, however, is extreme altitude sickness. The
"death zone" is above 8,000 metres.
The lack of oxygen can disorientate the most experienced
climbers, and many perish at this point. Moreover, the
bodies of many climbers who fall in the upper reaches of
the mountain are never recovered because of the logistical
difficulties. They are left on the mountain into perpetuity. It
is not unknown for climbers to walk past the bodies of their
dead comrades.
The window to climb Mount Everest is narrow - usually
between May 10th and May 23rd before the monsoon sets
In
Mount Everest has also been prone to multiple disasters. In
1996 eight people died when a huge storm hit the
mountain. It was the subject of the bestselling book and
film Into Thin Air.
In April 2014, 16 sherpas were killed when an avalanche hit
base camp, and this was followed a year later by the
deaths of 19 sherpas in another avalanche caused by an
earthquake. The climbing season was cancelled for 2015
as a result.

Top Of The World by
53 days later there I was on the summit of Mt. Everest! The
highest point in the world. No words can explain how
amazing it felt to look down and see our beautiful planet.
Tibet on my left, Nepal on my right, standing way above the clouds, all took my breathe away. What an amazing way to feel so small in a world so big!
I took my first steps on the summit at 6:15am, this made me the first Tanzanian woman, Youngest African/Arab and
one of the Youngest in the world to have attempted and stood at 8,848.86m. I was probably one of the coldest people in the world too. It took sometime to digest and remember everything that happened but now that it all came back, all I can think about is getting back to the mountains and I would definitely want to stand on top of the world for a second time! (Now that I actually know what
to do and expect).
Im glad to have gone through the 6 week journey and back in Kathmandu back in one peace.
