⚠️ Manaslu & Tsum Valley Trek Alert
On the morning of 11 October, a flash flood hit the Budhi Gandaki river corridor in the Manaslu region. It damaged homes, bridges, trekking trails and other infrastructure. Five people are officially reported missing, and no deaths have been confirmed. Our thoughts are with the affected communities and the rescue teams working through the day.
The cause is still under investigation. Current evidence points to a landslide that temporarily blocked the river in the upper catchment. Earlier reports of a glacial lake outburst (GLOF) have not been confirmed.
What this means for your trek:
🔴 Not started yet? Please delay your departure. Trails and bridges in the lower Budhi Gandaki corridor are damaged or washed away. We’ll update you as soon as the route has been assessed.
🟠 Already above the affected confluence? You can continue around the circuit over Larke Pass and exit via Dharapani, as long as your guide agrees after assessing local conditions.
⚪ In or near the affected area? Follow your guide and the local authorities. Do not attempt damaged crossings, and stay away from riverbanks.
This is a serious but localised event, limited to the Budhi Gandaki and Manaslu corridor. It is not Nepal-wide flooding. Annapurna, Langtang, Everest and Kanchenjunga are not affected by this flood.
Government agencies, security forces, the Nepal Tourism Board, NTNC/MCAP and senior guides are actively verifying information. More detailed assessments of the trails, bridges and affected communities are expected.
