Ghode Jatra is a vibrant festival celebrated every year in the Kathmandu Valley. The festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil and holds special cultural importance, particularly among the Newar community.

On this day, large celebrations take place at Tudikhel, where people gather to watch horse parades, horse races, cultural performances, traditional dances, and community activities. The Nepal Army performs impressive equestrian displays during the event. The government also declares a public holiday in the Kathmandu Valley for the occasion.

The festival dates back to the Malla Dynasty (12th–18th century). Historically, a demon named Gurumapa once terrorized the people of Kathmandu. Horses were run around Tudikhel to scare him away, and during one such event he was trampled to death. Since then, Ghode Jatra has been celebrated to mark the end of the demon and the protection of the city.
