Did you know?, Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth at 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 ft), was named in 1865 after Sir George Everest, a British surveyor who helped map the Indian subcontinent.
Sir George Everest (1790–1866) was a British surveyor, geographer, and geodesist best known for serving as the Surveyor General of India and for leading much of the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India. The world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, was named in his honor in 1865
Interestingly, Sir George Everest never saw the mountain himself and reportedly preferred that it not be named after him. Before that, the mountain was known locally as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma in Tibet.
Today, Mount Everest stands as a symbol of adventure, determination, and the incredible beauty of the Himalayas. 🇳🇵⛰️
