Rani Mahal is also called Ranighat Palace.

It is a four-storey palace on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River in Palpa District, Nepal, about 13 km north of Tansen.

It was built in 1893 by General Khadga Shumsher Rana in memory of his wife, Tej Kumari Devi.

It is often called "Nepal's Taj Mahal". In 1902, the General fled to India, leaving the palace behind. Years of neglect followed.

Today, recent restoration efforts have revived it, and Nepal's Department of Archaeology now manages it.

The palace stands 56 ft wide and 112 ft tall. It is built in a mix of European and neoclassical styles.

It features Newari-style designs with detailed carvings, fine woodwork, and colorful wall paintings. The garden has a pond and statues.

The peaceful surroundings attract large crowds. At least 142,000 visitors were recorded in a single recent year. The best time to visit is from September to December.

It is especially loved by couples around Valentine's Day.

Rani Mahal is surrounded by well-maintained gardens overlooking the Kali Gandaki River, blending natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The river is home to ancient fossilized ammonites called "Shaligrams", deeply revered in Hinduism.
