Mustang in Lonely Planet’s Top Three Regions to travel in 2013

Internationally renowned travel guidebook Lonely Planet has listed Nepal’s Mustang as one of the Top three regions in Best in Travel 2013. It says that it is a last chance to see ‘forbidden kingdom’ as the completion of a road connection Mustang to China in the north and the rest of Nepal to the south will make all the difference to this remote region. “Nepal which is being repeatedly listed as a favorite destination in the Lonely Planet and CNN speaks the fact that the effort that we have put together for the promotion of Nepal’s tourism has been paid back handsomely,” says Aditya Baral, Director, PR and Publicity and Spokesperson of Nepal Tourism Board. Having listed in both Top Regions and Best value destinations for Best in Travel 2013 series, Nepal is undoubtedly a favourite destination to be watched in 2013, says Mr. Baral.
Other destinations feature in this categories are Corsica, France, The Negev, Israel, The Kuon, Canada, Chachapoyas & Kuelap, Peru, The Gulf Coast, USA, Carinthia, Austria, Palawan, the Philippines, Inland Sea, Japan, and Campania, Italy.
Earlier in November this year, Nepal has been listed in Lonely Planet's "Best value destinations" for 2013, in part of its "Best in Travel" annual series. In CNN website quoting Lonely Planet, it writes, "With visitor numbers steadily rising, Nepal remains a tremendous option for budget travellers. Nepal is not only the best-value spot for Himalayan hiking, it must be a contender for offering the most astonishing rewards for the least upfront investment of anywhere in the world.

Manakamana Temple- pilgrimage site,

Legend has it that Queen of Gorkha's King Ram Shah (A. D. 1614 - 1636) possessed divine powers known only to her devotee Lakhan Thapa. One day, the King found his Queen as Goddess. Following the revelation, he mentioned it to his Queen and suddenly died. He was cremated and his Queen committed sati on his funeral pyre, as per the custom. She consoled her lamenting devotee Lakhan saying she would reappear near his home. Six months later, a farmer ploughing his field hit a stone, cleaved it and blood and milk flowed which ceased when Lakhan worshipped it with his ta***ic knowledge. The site became foundation of the present shrine. The present pujari is the 17th generation descendent of Lakhan Thapa.

Manakamana temple lies 12 Km south of historic town Gorkha and located on a prominent ridge (1302 mt. above sea level) overlooking the river valleys of Trisuli (south) and Marshyangdi (west). The unique location of the place is dramatized during winter when the ridge appears as an island above the sea of morning mist.
People believe Manakamana Devi fulfills the wishes of her devotees, thus called the wish fulfilling deity.Spectacular views include deep valleys, terraced fields and the Manaslu-Himalchuli and Annapurna ranges. In the past, the only access to the region was by arduous climb of over five hours but one can now visit the shrine in comfort by Manakamana cable car.
