There’s nothing quite like horse trekking through the stunning countryside of Kyrgyzstan. 🇰🇬

Just me, the mountains, the sound of hooves on the ground and the river flowing alongside us. Pure peace. 😊

You really don’t need much to be happy.

Our recent trek through the Alay Mountains in Kyrgyzstan reminded me of this once again. A cosy yurt to rest after a long day of trekking, playing volleyball with the locals surrounded by towering peaks, fresh homemade yoghurt, bread and raspberry jam from our hosts, a picnic lunch at 4000m, and waking up surrounded by some of the most incredible mountains on earth. 😊

It’s the simple things that often bring the most joy. And it’s pretty special to be reminded to slow down, appreciate what we have and never take the little moments for granted. 🛖🏔️❤️

🍞 YES, this is a bread appreciation post. 😜

Because after travelling through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, we can confirm that bread has been the centrepiece of pretty much every meal we’ve eaten.

Fresh from the tandoor, crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside, beautifully decorated and very difficult to stop eating. 😋

Honestly, this is some of the best bread we’ve eaten anywhere in the world — and we’ve eaten a LOT of bread in our travels!

So… would you travel to Central Asia and eat your body weight in delicious bread? Because I highly recommend it. 😂🍞❤️

📍Alay Mountains, Kyrgyzstan

This is what adventure in Kyrgyzstan looks like. 🇰🇬🏔️

The first few days of our trek through the Alay mountains threw some pretty challenging hikes and high passes our way, but it’s 100% worth it for these views and the priceless experiences along the way.

And not to mention sleeping in cozy yurts 🛖 and being looked after by some beautiful nomadic families as we trek from place to place. 🫶

It’s been a busy few weeks! 😜Let’s play catch up!

Before attending the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan this past week (was so much fun 😃), I was offline while trekking deep into the Alay Mountains of Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬— a spectacular mountain region in the south of the country, right near the Tajikistan border. 🏔️

And WOW… it was sooo stunning up there! Huge mountains, wild landscapes, fresh air and some seriously incredible scenery.

Still exploring the stunning Fann Mountains in Tajikistan 🇹🇯 — and this time, it’s all about the trek to Kulikalon Lake. 🏔️

It’s a great day of hiking to reach the lake, but the reward? A picnic with these views. 😍

We based ourselves in Artuch Village, staying at a lovely homestay with a beautiful local family — and as you can see, we were very well fed! 😋🥘

If you’re a nature lover or a keen hiker, I 100% recommend coming here!

What a beautiful few days it was exploring the Seven Lakes in Tajikistan 🇹🇯 .

The hike between Lake 6 & Lake 7 was so enjoyable; we found ourselves walking in the middle of a donkey caravan on the way back, alongside old Tajik shepherds, chatting in broken Russian, Tajik and English, plus many smiles and nods. Loved every minute of it 🫶.

Woke up before sunrise to watch the colours and reflections of the mountains on the lake change, so mesmerising 🥰.

Crossing the border from Uzbekistan into Tajikistan and heading straight for the spectacular Seven Lakes! 🇹🇯🏔️

We made our way here by shared taxis, winding through some incredible mountain scenery, and then stayed overnight at Lake 6… and just look at the view from our room! 😍

Fun fact: 93% of Tajikistan is mountains! So you can probably guess what’s coming next… ⛰️📷🥾

After 20+ years of travelling the world and visiting every country, I still get asked… “Are you tired of travel?”

Short answer? Absolutely not. 😜

I love the surprise of it all. Arriving somewhere new, being the visitor, putting yourself out there, getting immersed in the local culture, trying new food and meeting people you’d never otherwise meet.

I still believe travel is the best education. You learn so much about the world, other cultures… and definitely a lot about yourself along the way too.

And the best part about this trip? A few months ago, I didn’t even know I’d be travelling through Central Asia!

But when an opportunity comes along and you have the capacity to say YES… say yes.

So here I am in Samarkand, still loving this unpredictable life of travel and saying yes to wherever it takes me. 🌍
