Standing with Nepal

Yesterday, Nepal was hit by devastating flash flooding after an ice and rock collapse high in the Himalayas sent a powerful surge of water, mud and debris through the valleys near the Nepal–Tibet border. The scale of the destruction has been overwhelming, with communities, roads, bridges and infrastructure badly affected.

Nepal is at the heart of who we are. It was Nimsdai’s home, the place that shaped him and the spirit, strength and determination he carried with him throughout his life. Those same values are woven into Elite Exped, and our connection to Nepal, its mountains and its people runs incredibly deep. To see communities there facing such devastation is heartbreaking.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected and with the communities now facing the difficult days ahead.

On the ground, Elite Exped is working with our partners to assess what is needed most urgently. We are looking at essential supplies, temporary shelters and other practical support that can be provided to affected communities in the coming days.

We have also released immediate disaster relief funds through the Nimsdai Foundation and are now looking carefully at the next steps, working with those on the ground to understand where the funding can have the greatest impact.

For anyone who would like to support the relief effort, donations can be made directly to the Nimsdai Foundation Disaster Relief Fund via the link in their Linktree. Every contribution will go towards supporting communities affected by the disaster.

This is an evolving situation, and we will continue to assess what is needed and how we can best support the communities affected.

From reflection, we continue to move forward together.

The first of our three Kilimanjaro groups has completed their climb, reaching the summit of Africa’s highest mountain together.

Every person who joins us on an adventure comes with their own story, their own reasons and their own idea of what might be possible.

This has always been at the heart of Elite Exped- bringing people together, supporting one another through challenge, and helping people discover their own new possible through adventure.

We are incredibly proud of our first group and grateful to our guides and crew on the mountain who continue to make these experiences possible.

With two more groups still to take on Kilimanjaro, the journey continues.

The past few weeks have been a time of immense loss and reflection.

Our founder, Nirmal Purja MBE - NIMSDAI, founded Elite Exped with a belief in helping people achieve their new possible through adventure. Through his own journey, he showed people that nothing is impossible with a determined approach, a positive attitude and the courage to push beyond what we believe we are capable of.

His impact on this team, our community and the mountains will always remain part of who we are.

Behind Elite Exped is an incredible family of guides, climbers, operations teams and people working behind the scenes around the world - many of whom have built this journey together over many years.

Together, we remain committed to our people, our community and the purpose that has always been at the heart of Elite Exped - helping people discover their own new possible through adventure.

We will carry with us the legacy, lessons and memories of Nimsdai and all those we have lost.

Together, we move forward. ❤️

Following the avalanche on Broad Peak on 30 July, and after an extraordinarily difficult recovery operation, our founder, Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja, has now been brought home to the UK. Our guides Yukta and Nima have also been brought home to their families in Nepal, alongside Kili Pemba “Kilu” Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa.

We will never have enough words to thank everyone who made this possible. Our deepest gratitude goes to the ground recovery team, led by Mingma G , alongside the Pakistan Army and the President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, whose courage, determination and selfless commitment in exceptionally challenging and dangerous conditions made it possible to bring our team members home. What they did for Nimsdai, our team and their families will never be forgotten.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Sirbaz Khan, Dipen Gurung, Pemba Chewang Sherpa and everyone who supported the operation on the ground, as well as the Pakistan Army, Government of Pakistan, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, local authorities, British High Commission, Embassy of Nepal and Alpine Club of Pakistan.

To every person who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, coordinated logistics, offered their expertise or supported the recovery and repatriation in any way: thank you. And to our community around the world, your messages, prayers, kindness and unwavering support have carried us through the most difficult of days. We are eternally grateful.

Remembering Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja MBE. Husband. Father. Brother. World-renowned groundbreaking mountaineer. Entrepreneur. Leader. Gurkha. Special Forces Veteran.
 
These titles describe who Nimsdai is, but they don't capture what he represents.
Nimsdai built a legacy by challenging limits and breaking boundaries. He redefined what was possible and showed the world what can be achieved when belief, courage, and relentless determination come together.
 
Nimsdai dedicated his life to expanding the boundaries of human potential while using his achievements to create opportunities for others. He used his voice to champion others, especially Nepal's climbing community. Through the work of the Nimsdai Foundation, he transformed the lives of mountain communities, championed education and opportunity, and inspired people across the world to pursue lives of purpose, resilience and service. His vision, leadership and determination built Elite Exped, Nimsdai Foundation, Skydive Nimsdai and Nimsdai Store into what they are today. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he changed and the people he inspired to climb their own mountains.
 
Nimsdai was climbing Broad Peak as part of his own expedition to become the first person in history to climb all 14 eight-thousanders twice without supplementary oxygen. Nimsdai was accompanied by his trusted climbing partners and guides, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta) and Nima Sherpa. With only Cho Oyu remaining to complete all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks for a third time as part of his Hat-Trick Project in support of the Nimsdai Foundation.
 
Yet, true to the philosophy that defined his life, this climb was never simply about records. It was about pushing the limits of what was possible and inspiring others to believe that their own mountains could also be climbed.

Remembering Nima Sherpa, and in honour of all those who lost their lives on the Broad Peak.
 
Nima was a hardworking, honest, and courageous climber whose dedication to the mountains earned him the respect of everyone who knew him. After beginning his journey in trekking, he quickly established himself as a skilled high-altitude mountaineer through his discipline, determination, and tireless work ethic.
 
Born in the foothills of Mount Makalu in Nepal's Sankhuwasabha District, Nima Sherpa built his life around the mountains he loved. Through perseverance, resilience, and an unwavering passion for mountaineering, he became one of Elite Exped's most respected climbers, admired by teammates, clients, and friends alike.
 
A man of few words, Nima was known for his humility, quiet strength, and unwavering determination. He never sought recognition, preferring instead to let his actions speak for themselves. His calm presence, selfless nature, and steadfast attitude inspired confidence in those around him and earned him the admiration of everyone who had the privilege of climbing alongside him.
 
Throughout his career, Nima successfully summited many of the world's highest and most challenging mountains, including Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Manaslu.
 
Nima, you will be truly missed by the entire Elite Exped family. May you rest in peace. Your legacy will live on in the mountains you loved and in the hearts of all who knew you. You will never be forgotten.

Remembering Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), and in honour of all those who lost their lives on the Broad Peak.
 
Yukta's passion for the mountains was unquestionable. This year, he stood on the summit of Everest for the 10th time; a remarkable achievement that reflected his extraordinary strength, dedication, and deep love for the high peaks. Over the course of his career, he completed 28 ascents of the world's 8,000-metre peaks and explored many previously unclimbed summits across the Himalayas, leaving an extraordinary legacy of mountaineering.

The stories shared by clients after climbing with Yukta were always filled with warmth, humour, kindness, and quiet determination. He inspired confidence in those around him, led with humility, and embodied the true spirit of the mountains.
 
Born in the remote village of Laprak in Nepal's Gorkha District, Yukta built his career through years of hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the mountains. From his early days in the expedition industry, he steadily gained experience and developed into a highly respected mountaineer, eventually serving as a rope-fixing team leader on major expeditions, including Annapurna and the North Face of Everest.
 
In 2026, his expertise and dedication were recognised when he earned certification as an IFMGA Mountain Guide, one of the highest professional qualifications in the mountaineering world. His journey from a remote Himalayan village to becoming an internationally certified guide stands as a testament to perseverance, excellence, and an enduring passion for the mountains.
 
Yukta, you will be deeply missed by the entire Elite Exped family. May you rest in peace. Your legacy will live on in the mountains you loved and in the hearts of all who knew you. You will never be forgotten.

People often think climbing an 8000m mountain is all about reaching the summit. In reality, the summit is just one moment. The real journey happens long before and long after.

High on the mountain, surrounded by silence, stripped away from the noise of everyday life, you begin to think differently. There are no endless notifications, no pressure to keep up, no distractions. Just you, your thoughts, and one step at a time.

You start reflecting on your life, your priorities, and the people who truly matter. The things we often chase in the modern world suddenly feel insignificant, while the little things; a warm cup of tea, a sunrise above the clouds, a conversation with your teammates, a safe return to camp become priceless.

Mountains have a way of humbling you. They remind you how small you are, how little control you have, and how much there is to be grateful for. They teach patience, resilience, respect, and appreciation—not just for nature, but for life itself.

Maybe that’s why we keep going back.

Not because we need another summit, but because every mountain leaves us a better version of ourselves than the one who started the climb.

The summit is the destination.
The transformation is the real achievement.
