Some people climb mountains, but only a few become larger than the mountains themselves. Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja was one of those rare individuals.
Born in Myagdi, Nepal, Nimsdai showed the world what determination, courage, and an unbreakable spirit can achieve. From serving in the British Gurkha Army and the elite British Special Boat Service (SBS) to rewriting mountaineering history by climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in just 6 months and 6 days, he made Nepal proud on the global stage.
But beyond the records and achievements, Nimsdai was an inspiration. He taught us to dream bigger, work harder, and believe that even the impossible can be achieved. His message, “Nothing Is Impossible,” was not just a slogan—it was the way he lived his life.
The tragic loss of Nimsdai and his fellow climbers in an avalanche on Broad Peak on 30 July 2026 has left a deep void in the hearts of Nepalis and mountain lovers around the world. It is difficult to accept that a man who inspired so many is no longer with us.
Yet legends never truly leave. They live on through the lives they touch, the dreams they inspire, and the paths they create for others to follow.
Rest in peace, Nimsdai. Thank you for showing the world the strength of Nepal and the limitless potential of the human spirit. You may be gone from our sight, but your courage, humility, and legacy will forever remain in our hearts.
