International Elephant Day – Celebrating one of Chitwan’s most remarkable animals
Alongside the tiger and the rhinoceros, the elephant is one of the most talked-about animals in Chitwan, Nepal. We even have an Elephant Breeding Centre in the area, as well as several elephant stables that can be visited. And every year, we honour the elephant with a dedicated elephant festival.
The elephant is a powerful and remarkably intelligent animal, with talents and abilities that humans still do not fully understand. But however impressive, and sometimes even gentle, an elephant may appear, it remains a wild animal that, just like a rhino or a tiger, can be extremely dangerous.
When they are young, elephants are irresistible: playful, curious, and sometimes they even seem to pick up human-like behaviours.
Elephants are also used for tourist rides in Chitwan. At Nepal Dynamic Eco Tours, we do not recommend this. We are a 100% animal-friendly organisation and believe that wild animals should be respected for what they truly are.
For us, the elephant is a beautiful, intelligent and fascinating animal that we prefer to admire from an appropriate distance, in peace and with respect for its natural behaviour.
Let’s celebrate elephants —> not ride them.
