Day 3 - we crossed the border into Cambodia from Vietnam. We boarded a sampan and cruised to a little village that had stilt houses. We were privileged to go to a lovely Cambodian 96 year old lady who lives with her youngest son. She has 3 sons and a daughter. The sons live close by in the village but her daughter lives away with her husband. When she saw me she said “you look like my younger sister” in Cambodian and our tour guide Rye (Ree) had to translate as she held my hands and hugged me! She was a real spunky, gorgeous lady! We then had a visit to a silk weaving factory. Amazing how they work and create such beautiful patterns. We then boarded Tuktuks for the return trip to the ship. Trying to@play catch up with my posts now that I have better internet service.

Day 2: Cai Be to Sa Dec - we depart the ship by sampan to tour Cai Be. First we went to a traditional family owned rice workshop where artisans craft delicate rice paper for spring rolls or Vietnamese rice paper rolls, popped rice treats and regional candies made from Pandan leaves with additions like cacao, coconut or ginger. They popped rice treats were nice and not overly sweet. The pandan leaves candy was tasty! Back in sampan to visit the charming French inspired Catholic Cathedral. What a beautiful church! We were then given a lesson on the Vietnamese language by our tour guide Hung. He is a Vietnamese man who was born in Saigon and has seen many changes to Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam over the past 40 plus years.

A little rain today as we were on the coach to our ship APT Serenity. She’s a beautiful ship! The crew are fabulous, so friendly and helpful. We have Vietnamese, Cambodian and Filipino crew members but have not met all yet. Still to add to the multi-cultural group. Guests onboard are mainly Australian, Scottish, Chinese and we two Kiwis for the moment as we haven’t spoken to everyone yet! Let the fun and frivolity begin!
