We wanted to share a very cool story from Rhonda’s first trip of the season because it still makes us smile.

Minakshe booked Rhonda for a mom & daughter South Island road trip, and explored a good portion of areas in just 8 days.

We like to recommend Clyde as your first stop on your roadie 🙌

A wee town full of historic charm, stone buildings, cottage gardens, all beside the Clutha River.

It’s a great detour to avoid some of those side winds climbing up the hill after you leave Alexandra.

Ten minutes drive from our depot, you can drop in for a coffee at the famous Oliver’s cafe - your kombi will fit right in here parked in the main street.

Then carry on your way, with some foodie things on board, to enjoy the next stretch of slow travel. 🤩

How fun & special is this? Mina is taking her mom on a roadie adventure in Rhonda 💛

So glad the weather turned it on for them - and can’t wait to hear the adventures they’ll have.

Although they have a couple of things planned, they are mostly going with the flow - we highly recommend that mindset 👏

The weather in the South Island can change very quickly and it doesn’t pay to be too stuck on needing to be somewhere at a certain time/day.

Alexandra is a great spot to head off from, West Coast, Catlins, Mackenzie Country, Fiordland - where would you head to?

Rhonda has a new bedtime look for the upcoming season!

We’ve been trialling this setup in our own van, Aggiee all last season and it works well to save faffing about with curtains or stick on side window covers.

Warren says it’s much easier on the driver too without curtains flapping around.

But I do love the curtain vibe - what do you think? Curtains or window covers? 🤷‍♀️

Also splashed out on a comfy Ecosa mattress topper - so much better for ageing bones 🤭

Historic bridges are always a draw card for us when we’re out driving in Aggiee.

This one is at one entrance to Ophir, a historic gold mining town full of charm. 💖

Only half an hours drive from Alexandra where we’re based and perfect timing for a shot of coffee and cake ☕️🍰 on your roadie before carrying on your way!

Drive 2km south off the highway at Omakau to find it - FYI Omakau also has a great spot for food/coffee at The Muddy Creek cafe - can you spot the theme of our roadies 🤭?

Many of the original buildings still survive - the Post and Telegraph Office has been restored and you can even post a letter or postcard from it - the country’s longest running post office!! 📬

You’ll see lots of cute old cottages and gardens down the street if that’s your vibe! 👌

Travel at kombi pace & soak up the historic charm of Central Otago this summer - you’ll find many such places as you road trip around. 🚐✨
